ORU vs. Oregon

Terre Haute didn't get to host their Super Regional due to "logistical issues", so they are relegated to traveling to Fort Worth.  The woes of a mid-major in a Power 5 world.

Southern Miss also got to host over Rocky Top Tennessee....how's that?!!  🤔

Stanford is the late night game for ESPN (starting an hour later on Friday) - overdrawing the Eugene regional.  We all have our favorites, eh?? 🤷‍♂️

I found this note in an article in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star.

One primary factor is the city of Terre Haute's and ISU's longtime role as host for the Indiana Special Olympics, scheduled to begin Friday and continue through June 11. ISU Athletics listed contributing factors for declining to host a Super Regional, such as hotel accommodations, and a small workforce, among others.

ISU and Terre Haute have been the host site for the Indiana Special Olympics for a half-century. Nearly 2,000 Special Olympians will compete, bringing their families and supporters to town, as well.

It would appear moving the Indiana Special Olympics is a lot more complicated than telling the Eugene minor league team that they have to play on the road this weekend.

Here's hoping our guys won't be relegated to the trailer-trash visitor locker rooms depicted in this story:

ORAL ROBERTS AT OREGON

Oral Roberts is the story of the NCAA Tournament so far, as the No. 4 seed Golden Eagles will try to keep their Cinderella story going. But it's clear that this group isn't a typical underdog. ORU is 49-11 and got under seeded by the selection committee due to a weak strength of schedule. In terms of team quality, there's no questioning the Golden Eagles. They beat Oklahoma State three times this spring and went 3-0 in Regionals.

Oregon likewise went 3-0 as a surprise winner of the Nashville Regional, although two of those wins came against a weak-ish No. 3 seed in Xavier. It seems likely that Ducks ace Jace Stoffal will remain unavailable — or at least unavailable to start and go deep into games — due to injury. The Ducks have a slower-pitching staff that won't overwhelm ORU.

Both teams can really hit. Oregon has a bit more power, whereas ORU hits more for average. The visitors have more pitching depth and will continue their magical run all the way to Omaha.

Prediction: Oral Roberts in 3

In other news related to this series, I checked the weather in Eugene for this weekend.  Only a 5% chance of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Golden Eagles have the highest RPI and SOS (by far) of the remaining 16 teams in the tournament.  Impressive on ORU's part.

M/M Tim Reiterman driving down from Seattle. I’m introducing them to Eugene resident Jonathan Smith (78), half brother of Ron Smith (former ORU COO). I almost flew to Oregon. Got our air tickets for Omaha. Faith!

Omaha is a good show of faith in these guys, @Sterns78.  The Mrs. & I have decided to go out to Eugene this weekend.  For one, we have never gone to Oregon and look forward to seeing what's there.  Secondly, we only get to the Super Regionals every now and then (hopefully more frequently in the future), so we want to attend the games and get the experience while we can.  Third, if we win the SR, we will be at Omaha as well and hope to see a much larger contingent of Golden Eagle fans there than the Regionals or Super Regionals combined.

We are blessed to have such successful athletic programs going on right now.

We will try to do some sightseeing in Oregon during the day so any tips are appreciated.  We won't have much time though so only the highlights.  🙂
