Or, at 9:20am on Thursday, did I just jinx it?
eagle88
Springman brings stability to this transition period as well as to our program and it appears he really likes ORU and wants to be here. Couldn't be happier!
Dr. Cornelius
If the report from the Wichita St beat writer that Patterson is staying is correct it's GREAT news!

vcboy2000
It could have been where Mills offered Patterson to go with him and he elected to stay...

Let’s be realistic here. I am very excited about the promotion of Springmann, and the opportunity for ORU to continue its run of recent success with minimal upheaval. But, I don’t think it’s fair to vilify Mills and glorify Springmann on their decisions to stay/go. If Coach Springmann was in Mills’ position, it is HIGHLY likely that he would’ve made exactly the same decision - and after a couple of successful seasons, he may have that same opportunity. ORU is a wonderful place, but it’s a small school in a big pond, which is why it qualifies as a low-major. Unless a group of donors are willing to step up with some big $$$ to subsidize compensation and to fund an upgrade in our conference affiliation, the best we can hope for is to enjoy the run of a successful Coach, and then wish them well as they seek out “greener” pastures. 1 1

Dave Connor
I'm thrilled that Springmann is our new head coach and not surprised that Mills did not take him along to WSU. I remember Mills stating at some point that he expects his top assistant coaches will become head coaches. It would not surprise me if Mills saw his move to WSU as an opportunity for his friend to be promoted to the head coach position, and that Mills recommended that move to the President and/or AD.
oruvoice
I think Springmann is probably a good choice, but I wonder if we talked to or interviewed anyone else? Surely AD Buttigieg had a list of possible replacements in his pocket by mid-season.

Old Titan
Ever served on a project committee that meets for several months, discussing multiple options at length before hammering out a course of action, only to have a bunch of new people start showing up near project completion date, questioning your decisions and wanting to rehash all the options you've already covered? Asking for a friend...lol
