Some of that variance is based on which conferences are included in one "mid-major" poll from another. This particular poll, for example, includes the Mountain West and its four-team juggernaut of New Mexico/Utah State/San Diego State/Nevada, which gobbles up many of the top spots. Other leagues that are included in some mid-major polls but not in others include the A-10, and the West Coast Conference (with Saint Mary's and Gonzaga).
