ORU Bracketology and rankings for 2023

Last night I was at an event where Tim Johnson said Joe Lunardi already has us in the Big Dance as a 14 seed playing Creighton and said we will be very good. Tim also said in one poll we are preseason #7 for mid majors. Hopefully our guys won't read their press clippings too much but continue to work hard, stay focused and remain humble.

Interesting, the Eagles would match up with Creighton and Baylor Schierman in the first round.  Just when we thought we had seen the last of him!  ORU will get everyone's best shot this year because of the high rankings.  For ORU to live up to those expectations they will need to win close games.  That is often the difference between a good team and a great team.  Last year the Eagles lost the close games and in 20-21 they won them and thus advanced to the Sweet 16.

On a side note, they started ranking the top 144 college basketball teams for the next year.  They are only up to number 140 but would expect to see ORU on the list in the upcoming weeks.

That really was an incredible shot.  It was actually pretty well-contested (for a half-court shot), and by the time the camera shifts to where the basket is in view, the backboard light is already on - and the ball is still going up (hasn't even reached the top of the arc).  That's one of those times when you just have to shake your head, and tip your cap to the opponent.

Oh, I don't like this one bit... #rtoomuchtoosoon

It IS nice to see three Summit teams in the top 25, especially with so many stars defecting to other leagues (SDSU #18 and USD #19).

I also look for Omaha to (eventually) get better with the new ORU influenced coaching staff. UMKC should also see an uptick with the new coaching staff and their emphasis on corralling Kansas City recruits.

Don't forget Denver - serious dark-horse with sneaky good talent and a great coach.

You are right about Denver OT.   They got four solid players in the transfer portal and bring back a good group of guys.  That top 25 list had three Summit League teams in the top 20.  So, it is going to be a tough year this year in league play.  They only question mark is NDSU: they lost four starters from last year.  Coach Richman is a good coach, but it will be interesting to see if he can keep the Bison in the top 4 in the league.

You’re right - I forgot about Denver…. Though they always seem to have potential and never achieve what we think they should.

Wow! That was a surprisingly good analysis of ORU's defense and incoming transfers!
