This page was updated on 3/26 and his 'grade' was increased to 82 - whatever that means

Steven Roundtree | SF

Hometown Jacksonville, FL

High School Maine Central Institute (ME)

Height 6'7"

Weight 180 lbs.

Last Updated: 3/26/2010 Data provided by Scouts, Inc.

Status: Undeclared

Scouts Grade: 82

Evaluation

November, 2009: Roundtree is a hybrid forward who can play either the 3 or the 4. He is athletic and bouncy and equally fast and quick. He scores by running in transition or on the offensive glass and is also a bit of a mismatch problem. He faces up and attacks...

from NBE Basketball discuss the NE prep season (link)

Steven Roundtree, 2010, Maine Central Institute: The former Patterson School prospect had 27 points against the Kiski School (Pa.) on Saturday night, but could not repeat his performance on Sunday against Northfield Mount Hermon. Roundtree is a versatile offensive performer who brings length and athleticism to the table, although he needs to add weight. He moves well without the ball, and can score in a variety of ways. He gets decent position in the paint against smaller defenders, and can take bigger ones off the bounce.

From Recruit Recon (talking about Northeast prep schools and their recruits):

Maine Central Institute

Steven Roundtree (2010, 6-7 SF)

Steven probably put together the best half of anyone in this game. Right off the bat he got out in transition and outran the defense for an athletic 2 hand slam. Soon after that he again got out in transition but was fouled and only hit 1 of his 2 free throws. Steven also did some quality work along the baseline, hitting a mid range jumper and also made a beautiful spin move to get by his defender and went up for a finger roll that was goal tended. While underneath the hoop Steven pump faked which got 2 defenders in the air and then he jumped into them to draw the foul. He proceeded to knock down both of his free throws.

Very good chance on Washington and he would get as many minutes as he can handle. He is exactly what they are looking for at that 3 or 4 position with Craion.

ORU would take them both and then get a shooter and call it a day.

May be a very good weekend for the good guys!

Not fair to compare Washington to Roundtree: one is an interior player with two years of high-level junior college competition under his belt, the other is a wing player with no college experience - yet.

Both would be great acquisitions.

I agree.... both would be very nice pick ups. Roundtree has plenty of time (he is a freshman) to develop. Washington is just what we need; he is apparently somewhat of a wide body who can rebound and score down low.

Now to find that shooter.....

TheEagleman is frothing at the mouth at the possibility of getting BOTH of these guys.....who needs Neal anyway?....let's get these two!.....add them to Hunter, DBH, Craion, Morrison and Niles.....and I am ready to see ORU in the sweet 16..... ;)

Bo Barnes

PHP49E3853390060.jpg

I wonder how much this kid is looking at us? We are listed on Rivals as having offered him a scholarship... along with a lot of other (mid-major) schools.

He attended Scottsdale Christian Academy HS last year (2008-09) and averaged 19.2 ppg and shot 55.5% from the 3-point line (71 of 130).

Bo Barnes | SG

Hometown Phoenix, AZ

High School Westwind Prep Academy

Position rank Shooting Guard # 323

Height 6'4"

Weight 190 lbs.

Evaluation

November, 2009: Barnes is strictly a specialist, a catch and shoot player that prepares himself for a shot before he receives a pass. Bo does a good job of uncovering himself on dribble penetration and against zone defenses and runs the wing hard in transition to be available for the transition three point shot. Bo needs to work on quickening his release and needs to develop a shot fake one dribble pull-up.

Notes

Holds offers from Central Connecticut State, Rider, East Carolina, Albany, Evansville and Quinnipiac...

Doesn't this remind you of Beloved a bit, although he does have more height?

As far as Bo Barnes is concerned, anyone who can shoot 55% from 3-point range over an entire high school season and is 6'4" is worth a look. So he is mainly a catch and shoot guy. I remember Bill Self coaching players to run screens to get Tim Gill open and he shot about 45% from 3-point range during his best year (his junior year maybe). Of course Tim had a quick 1st step on his drive to the basket as well and that helped prevent him from being face guarded all the time. One reason Moses Ehambe had a lot of good looks from 3-point range was because he was 6'5" and was tougher to guard on the perimeter due to his height.

You can always use a shooter like Josh Atkinson, Chris Riouse, etc.

ORU would take Barnes in a heartbeat and that is the shooter they are looking at.

His recruiting is taking off a little as 2 or 3 Pac 10 teams are getting on him late.

Hopefully they can stay in there but are still looking at a few different players.
