Next Years Schedule

OT, care to drop a few names?

Sorry; was asked not to, because the deals are not finalized.

The good news is that there will be at least one other non-conference D-1 home game this year in addition to Tulsa.

good read on the difficulty a mid-major (Mo. State) has filling out their schedule.  their league permits one non D1 instead of their teams scheduling a 275 or worse RPI team.  Mo. State also only takes one "money game" a year (Texas Tech for 95k this year) and coming off a 20 win season no one wants to come to their arena.

Scheduling struggles for MSU men

The legal pad on Jermaine Henderson's desk was filled with the names of about 90 Division I schools. Some had Xs with circles beside them (no chance), some had merely an X (maybe) and a few had nothing at all (optimistic).

Henderson, Missouri State's basketball assistant charged with front-line duty in assembling a schedule, explained that he began this process months ago as a way of narrowing possibilities.

There were a lot of circled Xs on the sheet.

...

Henderson said he tries to start geographically to seek out home-and-home or two-for-one arrangements. The Bears and Oral Roberts are set to start a new four-year series this season with hopes to extend the MSU-Tulsa series, set to end after this year.

"We really appreciate schools like ORU and Tulsa playing us," Henderson said. "It's good for them and good for us from a geographic standpoint."

Safe to assume that, after last year's 3-point ORU loss in the Mabee Center, the new 4-year deal will start with a game in Springfield this year.

BRW, Missouri State is not one of the schools I alluded to in an earlier post re: home-and-home series with mid-majors.  Hopefully, more to come!

ORU-Wichita State???????????.... :eagles:

Wichita State is currently not a mid-major, at least not in the traditional sense.

The Shockers are now members of that select group of non-football schools with national basketball reputations, along the lines of Gonzaga, Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, etc.

They simply don't need home-and-home contracts - they can afford to pay for single guarantee games at home every year.

UTA or North Texas for Word and Owens???

UALR for the Arkansas players???

So Wichita State is so "big" now that that are too good to even give a school like ORU a 2 for 1 deal?....and if they are "that good"....why would the Shockers be afraid to come to Mabee Center to play us?...heck, the place would probably be 50% Shocker fans anyway..... :fubar:

Wichita State would be great to have on the schedule annually do to close proximity just like Mo. State and Tulsa. Arkansas, Okie State, Oklahoma or any combo thereof would also be great. Making any of the above happen in MBB is another thing. You could actually add Kansas, K State and Mo. to the above.

That is one thing I like about the Summit:  the league office announces the composite conference schedule in mid-summer, as opposed to the Southland not releasing it all, instead leaving it up to the individual schools to release with their full schedules in late August/early September.

NDSU lost four senior starters, their senior sixth man, and their head coach from last year's NCAA darlings.  Would have to think they would take a step back this season.

Of course, I was saying something similar this time last year about Southland defending champion Stephen F. Austin, and they proved better in their "rebuilding" year than they were the season before.

Will NDSU's recent success have the same carryover effect for their new faces?  ORU will find out soon enough...

One weird note:  January 2nd, 2015 is a Friday.  Assuming South Dakota State is still NDSU's travel partner, I wonder when ORU would play the Jackrabbits:  Sunday?

Regardless, I sure hope those first-week xDSU games are on the road, otherwise the ORU student body will be absent from arguably the two most important Summit League home games this season.

More scheduling teasers:

#SummitMBB opening night (Jan. 2) features @SDSUJacks at @DU_MHoops in a matchup of top-half finishers in last season’s standings.

Again, assuming SDSU and NDSU are travel partners, does this match-up mean Denver and ORU are similarly paired throughout the conference schedule?

If so, that's a pretty formidable 2-games-in-3-days swing for the other Summit League teams...

The league is, in fact, going Friday-Sunday for that first "New Year's" week.

But, ORU is the only conference school not playing on Sunday, Jan. 4th.

I don't mind that one bit:  only have to prepare for North Dakota State that week, instead of both the xDSU's.

AND, it's in Fargo instead of Tulsa, which means the Bison will visit T-Town later in the year when the students are here.

All in all, pretty awesome so far for ORU...
