Prediction: despite standing six games over .500 on January 1st, TU will end the year with a losing record. In the midst of their predicted swan dive this month (0-3 since my previous post), Tulsa manages the following tonight at Charlotte: Loses their third straight (against no wins) in AAC play Remains winless away from the Reynolds Center (0-5) Trails by 20-ish from midway through the first half until late in the game. Rallies to single-digits against the reserves before finally falling by eight. TU player slaps the ball out of the hands of a Charlotte player at the buzzer; prompting yet another bench-clearing episode (at least three last season) featuring a referee getting knocked silly to the floor. theeagleman5 Posted January 11 Share Posted January 11 TheEagleman is no TU lover as you know but that ending in Charlotte last night is a total disgrace to the program and there should be serious suspensions...some people need anger management sessions and a lecture in how to lose gracefully..... As opposed to the Fightin' Hurlicanes: this is the FOURTH such bench-clearing dust-up in Eric Konkol's 40-ish games over 1-1/2 seasons, and you never hear a word of contrition from him, the players, or the administration. There are fond memories of Tubby Smith's Sweet Sixteen runs and Bill Self's drive to the Elite Eight. This sort of current slump would have been unimaginable during those glory years, but it's a bitter-cold reality: With an American Athletic Conference loss to Tulane, the University of Tulsa basketball program is 1-22 in its last 23 games played against league opponents. ... …The lack of University of Tulsa basketball attendance is a nearly 20-year-old story and, frankly, I'm tired of writing about it. The essence of that narrative is that the beautiful Reynolds Center used to be packed, or close to it, during the first several seasons after construction was completed in 1998. But it highlights a problem for DECADES with attendance at both TU basketball and football games: inadequate parking. Tulsa should have YEARS AGO bought up all the little 900-square-foot houses east of Harvard Ave. and north of 11th Street and built a nice, big parking garage. But they didn't, and now that real estate has gone up in value exponentially. Maybe someday they will get serious about athletics and build a parking garage somewhere near the Reynolds Center and Skelly Stadium, but until they do (and in the meantime force fans to walk several blocks back & forth in all kinds of weather), they can expect their attendance figures to continue to fall victim to big screen TV's and comfy couches. 1 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ORUTerry Posted February 1 Share Posted February 1 WSU actually outshot the Hurricane 46% to 44% and both teams pulled down 31 rebounds. TU had 5 more three pointers (11/27 vs 6/21). Idig32 Posted February 2 Share Posted February 2 The AAC seems like it isn’t very good this year. They have some good “name” programs with Wichita State, Memphis, and SMU. Then they have Florida Atlantic becoming a great program. However, of those teams, only Florida Atlantic is doing well. The top 3 teams in the standings are Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, and UAB. All of those are solid programs, but they aren’t the programs (with the exception of Florida Atlantic) that are supposed to be the top of the conference. Wichita State is terrible, Memphis is completely unpredictable, and SMU is very average. They just seem like a very average conference. I always wonder how some of the teams in the Summit would stack up head to head against the American. I tend to think it would be really competitive, with the exception of the top three in the American, and especially Florida Atlantic. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
