The Aggies are one of the handful of mid-majors mentioned earlier this summer as possible opponents. They were an NCAA team last season and have a couple of big (literally) international players to contend with. Should be a real challenge, even at home in the Mabee Center.

Any idea who the others are?

Here's what I can tell you at this point:

ORU will in fact return the game owed at Weber State as part of the Bracketbuster arrangement.

The new contract with Missouri State features something you rarely see these days: home-and-home games in the same season. Actually had the same arrangement worked out with Danny Manning at TU, but he left before the contract could be signed, and new coach Frank Haith said no to the revised deal.

ORU will once again play in a 4-game tournament that features two road games (at SEC and Pac-12 schools respectively) before facing two mid-majors at the neutral tournament site.

In addition to the guarantee game at Oklahoma, ORU has at least one other guarantee game at a Top Twenty program within reasonable driving distance.

So, here's how the non-conference schedule is shaping up:

Exhibition Game #1 (H)

Exhibition Game #2 (H)

Tulsa (H)

Non D-1 game (H)

Tournament Game #1 (@ SEC school)

Tournament Game #2,(@ PAC-12 school)

Tournament Game #3 (mid-major @ neutral site)

Tournament Game #4 (mid-major @ neutral site)

Missouri State (H)

Missouri State (A)

Weber State (A)

New Mexico State (H)

Oklahoma (A)

Guarantee game @ Top 20 school in region

That's shaping up to be a really tough and really attractive schedule - has a little bit of everything.

thanks OT.  any idea if OU is a 2 for 1 like a few years ago or is it a 1 game paycheck?

The OU game this season is just a single guarantee game.

Thanks for all the great info OT!

Through your info and the list of early season tourney schedule listed on this website, I come up with the MGM Grand Main Event....it has both an SEC and PAC-12 team......

however, it already has listed 2 games for Auburn, so unless something has changed, I'm not sure?

Can't always go by those websites.  These tournament fields change all summer long, and sometimes the websites can't keep pace.

Have no idea if the SEC and Pac-12 teams are locked in yet, or if TU is one of the other two host teams.  Honestly, I don't even know the name of the tournament - I suppose it could be the one at the MGM Grand.  We'll know more for sure in the coming weeks.

OT or whoever, any chance one of the mid-major home/away games involves Ohio out of the MAC? There is rumor on their board about a home/away game with another unnamed mid-major. Just curious since they are now playing what they refer to as "Saul Ball" in reference to their new HC, Saul Phillips.

Hadn't heard that one mentioned, but might be a good one, at least from ORU's standpoint.

Thanks OT, I too think it would be a good game. If played on a week night there would probably be between 8 - 10K in the Convo. If on a Saturday it would be more like 11.5 - 13K.

ORU MEN'S BASKETBALL 2014-2015 SUMMIT LEAGUE SCHEDULE

Jan. 2 (Fri)  @NDSU  (Fargo, ND)

Jan. 7 (Wed)  IUPUI  (Mabee Center)
Jan. 10 (Sat)  @Western Illinois ( Macomb, IL)

Jan. 14 (Wed)  OMAHA  (Mabee Center)
Jan. 17 (Sat)  FORT WAYNE  (Mabee Center)

Jan. 21 (Wed)  @Denver (Denver, CO)
Jan. 24 (Sat)  SOUTH DAKOTA STATE  (Mabee Center)

Jan. 31 (Sat)  @South Dakota  (Vermillion, SD)

Feb. 5 (Thu)  @IUPUI  (Indianapolis, IN)
Feb. 7 (Sat)  @Fort Wayne  (Fort Wayne, IN)

Feb. 12 (Thu)  WESTERN ILLINOIS (Mabee Center)
Feb. 14 (Sat)  SOUTH DAKOTA (Mabee Center)

Feb. 19 (Thu)  @Omaha  (Omaha, NE)
Feb. 21 (Sat)  @South Dakota State  (Brookings, SD)

Feb. 26 (Thu)  NORTH DAKOTA STATE  (Mabee Center)
Feb. 28 (Sat)  DENVER  (Mabee Center)

At first glance, no complaints, but what variety:  February looks conventional, but January is a hot mess with open dates, Wednesday night games, and home-and-away games in the same week.

There is a stretch of 3 straight road games in the middle of the schedule, but none against projected upper-division teams, and the schedule closes with 4 of 6 games at home.

That last weekend of the year in Tulsa should be a corker:  the defending league champion (NDSU) and the preseason favorite (Denver) in the Mabee Center, with (hopefully) a lot on the line.

Another advantage:  ORU's game in the high altitude of Denver is on a Wednesday, with an extra day's rest before taking on SDSU on Saturday night in the Mabee Center.  Playing at Denver could really prove problematic for league teams visiting "The Mile High City" as the second game of their travel week.

Also, two of ORU's three forays into the Dakotas in the dead of winter are single games that week - the exception is the Omaha/SDSU 2-game swing, with a relatively pedestrian 3-hour bus trip between the two.

All in all, looks pretty good, at least from a fairness standpoint (in stark contrast to the last two years in the Southland).
