TheEagleman guesses 8th or 9th.....well....maybe 7th......😬

I am leaning this direction as well.

Far less experience and proven talent on the roster compared to last season.

*IF* this incoming team shows effort they may be able to achieve what the more proven team couldn’t last year.

We will find out really quickly if last season was an aberration or the standard has been significantly lowered at ORU basketball.

TheEagleman sure wishes he had better vibes about the upcoming 2024-25 season.....we need some positive stuff coming out of our basketball teams but I have to say it's more likely to happen for the ladies than the men this year......maybe the guys can get to .500.....that's probably our most realistic expectation.....but in Springmann we Trust!!  Better times are ahead....:tb-white:

I still wonder what Springmann is building at ORU.  Last year looked a lot like Mills Jr.: one on one dribble drives and 3 point shooting on offense and trouble rebounding on defense.   In the end he needs to be himself and build a team that is his philosophy and not just based on someone else's ideas.  Most coaches do that: learn from their mentors but then eventually put their own style into it.  It just takes time.

It may take him until season 3 to start putting things together.  Sutton and Mills took three years each to build a winning season.

Back to transfer portal news...

@ORUTerry texted me an unbelievable Twitter post from earlier this week:  Tulsa Memorial graduate Keylan Boone, of "The Boone Twins" fame, is petitioning the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility this coming season.

Just one slight problem:  Boone has already played at least 27 games per season for five straight years:  three at Oklahoma State, one at Pacific, and last season with his brother Kalib at UNLV.

At first glance, it would appear he's had his full share of college ball:  four seasons, plus an additional "COVID year", all without injury.

But upon further review, Boone is petitioning on the basis of a new NCAA rule that grants an additional year to transfers who were deemed ineligible for any part of any season since 2019-20.

Boone falls into that category, as UNLV held him out of last season’s first seven games following his transfer from Pacific.  This was during that early-season time of confusion (and court challenges) re: whether a second-time transfer was immediately eligible, or must sit out an NCAA-mandated full season.

The NCAA ended up retreating on their stance during the 23-24 semester break, (presumably because of all the litigation) and granted the likes of Keylan Boone immediate eligibility for the rest of last season.

Now, Boone feels he's entitled to an entire additional SEASON, due to missing those first seven non-conference games last year.

And, here's another aspect for these modern times:  Boone doesn't want to stay at UNLV for his sixth year - he wants to TRANSFER again, presumably for the best NIL dollars he can find.

The jury is out on how the NCAA might eventually rule, but I'm guessing they will do so before opening day, lest the now 42-year-old Boone misses the season opener somewhere and consequently petitions next summer for a seventh year.

Here's a thought, Keylan:  how about just getting your diploma, and finding a real job.

Father Time isn't the only one who's undefeated in this world; so is the inevitable end of your college career.

*Note:  this eventual ruling might also impact former ORU man-child-soon-to-be-thorn-in-the-side Ashton Smith, who was held out of all first-semester games for the Golden Eagles last season, before eventually transferring to South Dakota in April.

I don’t know why everybody is saying that the team is going to be a 7-9 seed in the Summit. I got them winning the summit with all of the new additions on the team. Forget what eagleman is saying and believe in the program. Oru making another big run in March this year I’ll bet on that!

I'm always a big fan of a bold proclamation in a board members' first post 🤔

i won't go so far as to say we will win the Summit but based on the players that are coming in (which granted they are unproven) we could make a big run and perhaps get back to the Big Dance in 2025. I trust Springmann and believe he vetted these incoming players very carefully. Springmann has been around the block and definitely knows what he is looking for. Also, are there any teams in the Summit that are a lock to make the tournament? It appears that most of  the Summit's best  player's were lured away by other programs.

This is the most unknowns/mysteries that ORU has had going into a season, since Mills first year.  Generally having a lot of uncertainty with a team does not equal a lot of success.  If the Eagles are to be successful then they need two or three transfers to step up and I think Sam and Carlos should be those guys to lead the way.  They both have 3 years of experience and both have played in the PAC-12.  If they come in and start right away and are solid players then ORU has a chance to be successful but if not then it could be a long season.

When was the last time the Eagles had so many question marks and had a great season? Let us think of some teams if anyone is interested.

I think maybe Coach Springmann and Musick should have the March Madness logo put at center court of the practice facilities to serve as a constant reminder of the goals for the program.
