ORU Eli
ESPN article on cleaning up college basketball. Includes the following excerpt: "An NCAA list of high schools and prep schools that are under scrutiny for suspiciously miraculous academic transformations includes some of the biggest names in basketball -- most notably Oak Hill Academy (Va.), Laurinburg (N.C.) Institute, Mt. Zion Academy (N.C.), Notre Dame Prep (Mass.), St. Thomas More Prep (Conn.) and The Patterson School (N.C.). With those schools' NCAA certification status up in the air, a number of high-profile players could be affected." http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2512797&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab3pos1

ORUTerry
Can't say that I am surprised that Jeremy Hazell has made a commitment to sign with Seton Hall: http://www.c-n.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060824/SPORTS02/608240379/1012/SPORTS10 excerpt: He originally had committed to Oral Roberts but decided to attend prep school this year instead. This whole thing smells - he basically reneged on his signed commitment to play a 2nd year or prep ball - and did not lose a year of eligibility. Interesting that we play Seton Hall this year.... tmh8286
Considering how closely the NCAA manages and monitors every other aspect of recruiting and just about everything else pertaining to players, it's kind of amazing that that this situation hasn't been dealt with. Perhaps ORU will point out the inequity here and see if something can be done to prevent this in the future, or at least create a significant penalty to a player who reneges on a LOI. MadAdder
Good points, TMH. Personally I think the best way to deal w/ this, as a team, would be to beat them by 30+ to let me know what he's missing out on.
tmh8286
I also meant to repeat, and forgot to, what others have said, and that is that if his heart is elsewhere, we really don't want him at ORU anyway. He could have potentially done more harm than good if he had showed up but had a bad attitude about being here.
vcboy2000
His impressions of ORU were great. He wanted to be here until he heard from someone that he could get to a high major program if he stayed back a year. The NCAA allready sees how these prep programs are being used as loop holes for players. Complaining about our situation will only sound like sour grapes. All of these prep coaches know that it is only a matter of time before the mighty NCAA hammer comes down on them. Hazell will probably be one of the last of these situations that we will see.
