Jose Trevino of the Spokane Indians (Class A Short Season) was named to the Northwest League All-Star Team - and then earned MVP honors in the All-Star game held earlier this week.  Ironically, the game ended in a 0-0 draw, but Trevino picked up two of the game's nine hits, both doubles.  Jose is batting an even .300 and leads the league in HRs (9), Hits (41) and Total Bases (109).  His team, a Texas Ranger affiliate, won the first half season crown and has already secured a berth in the early September playoffs.  Jose has rotated back and forth between 3B and C all year.  Great rookie season - Hip Hip Jose!

Jose is having one of those "late season slumps" that I'm sure is very stressful to him ...  In last 10 days  he is 5 for 40, and his batting average for the year is down to .261.   It would be a step in the right direction for him to go up to the Ranger's Myrtle Beach High-A team next year to start out (after his winter league activities).

Rangers prospect named top defensive catcher in minors

Quote

Rawlings, the sporting goods company, awarded the minor-league Gold Glove for defensive excellence at catcher to Jose Trevino of the Texas Rangers' organization on Monday.

...

Trevino was the only Ranger minor-leaguer to win a Gold Glove. The field of candidates consists of players who participated in any of the 10 full-season minor leagues.

I just forwarded the tweet to Barry Lewis at the Tulsa World and to Geoff Haxton - they will get a kick out of it as well.

I was looking forward to seeing Jose in Tulsa this week as Frisco visits the Drillers in the first homestand of the year.  Unfortunately, Jose was optioned to extended spring training on Friday and is back in Arizona. :(  Hopefully he is back at the AA level in the near future.
