Hoopsdude18
I tried looking for a thread on 2011-12 opponents here, but I did not see one. Anyway, this week I've come across two opponents for ORU this upcoming season so wanted to post. Xavier (away) http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/042611aaa.html Missouri State (home) http://whiteandbluereview.com/?page_id=293#schedule (scroll down to Missouri State section) Two high-quality opponents. theeagleman5
Nice.....those would be two high quality opponents for ORU....Missouri State should be on the schedule every year....just makes sense....wonder if Xavier will visit Mabee Center at some point?.... Bogus Smith
Nice.....those would be two high quality opponents for ORU....Missouri State should be on the schedule every year....just makes sense....wonder if Xavier will visit Mabee Center at some point?.... Xavier is a guarantee game - no return game - but it will give Warren an opportunity to play in front of his family (and he seems to do well when his family and friends are around). For home games next year, I believe that we should have TU, Austin Peay, Missouri State, Texas Tech and the first two Summit League games the first week of December. It should make for a nice home schedule in the first two months of the season.
Old Titan
We also have a BracketBuster game in late February, which I think we get to host again this year. In related news, all Summit League teams will be taking part in the BracketBuster event this season. 2011-2012 NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE vs. Texas Tech vs. Missouri State vs. Tulsa vs. Austin Peay vs. BracketBuster opponent vs. Non D-1 opponent (hopefully) @ Xavier @ Oklahoma @ Arkansas-Little Rock @ guarantee game vs. BCS opponent @ 2-or-3-game preseason or holiday tournament
Old Titan
As added above, we owe UALR a home game as the final installment of our 4-game, home-and-home contract. The Trojans beat us at the Mabee Center in 2008 and in Little Rock in 2009, before we finally knocked them off in Tulsa last year in November. They then turned around and beat us a couple of weeks later in the Las Vegas tournament, but we still owe them that fourth game this season. Old Titan
While we're at it, might as well list the most current conference schedule from the Summit League website, subject to change this summer: Thursday, Dec. 1 Southern Utah Saturday, Dec. 3 (open date - great night for a non-conference home game in the Mabee Center!) Wednesday, Dec. 28 @ UMKC (league schedule moved up a day to accommodate Tuesday games the following week [made necessary by BracketBuster Saturday conflict in February]) Friday, Dec. 30 @ South Dakota (same deal as above. Our guys get two New Year's Eve's in a row in the Dakotas - "Party!") Tuesday, Jan. 3 @ Oakland (terrible spot for this game. Do we even bother coming home from USD first? And, in case you're wondering, ORU and Southern Utah are the only two league schools forced to play three straight road games during this 12/28 to 1/7 stretch. Other eight conference teams play at least three of those five dates at home, or have an open date. The fact that the third of these three straight road games for us is @ Oakland makes it even worse.) Thursday, Jan. 5 North Dakota State (could bad weather in Detroit make us late to our own home game?) Saturday, Jan. 7 South Dakota State (5th game in 10 days - bound to be some tired legs at this point) Thursday, Jan. 12 @ Western Illinois Saturday, Jan 14 @ IUPUI Thursday, Jan. 19 IPFW (new 'Dons coach looks like he's 18 years old) Saturday, Jan. 21 Oakland (circle this game - must win! Just 18 days removed from playing them the first time.) Thursday, Jan. 26 South Dakota Saturday, Jan. 28 UMKC (finale of 4-game homestand - need to be building momentum by this point) Thursday, Feb. 2 @ SDSU (Groundhog Day in Brookings - any gopher showing it's head gets smothered in 3' of snow) Saturday, Feb. 4 @ NDSU Thursday, Feb. 9 IUPUI Saturday, Feb. 11 Western Illinois Wednesday, Feb. 15 @ IPFW (nice to have this testy opponent isolated in 1-game trip) Saturday, Feb. 18 BracketBuster (all Summit teams) Thursday, Feb 23 (open) Saturday, Feb 25 @ Southern Utah (Thunderbirds last Summit/Mid-Con home game ever) Saturday, Mar 3 - Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD Tuesday, Mar
Hoopsdude18
Saturday, Feb. 18 BracketBuster (all Summit teams) Thursday, Feb 23 (open) Saturday, Feb 25 @ Southern Utah (Thunderbirds last Summit/Mid-Con home game ever) Saturday, Mar 3 - Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD Tuesday, Mar 6 Not a terrible way to end the year. Shielded from any sort of extended road trips via a home BracketBuster game. Then a whole week to prep for and travel to SUU. Should be plenty rested for the Tournament. theeagleman5
TheEagleman agrees that ORU still owes UALR since they have beaten us 3 out of 4 over the past couple seasons...we never should have lost that ugly game to them in Vegas last December...and the Summit Leauge schedule is absurd having us play Oakland twice within 3 weeks and both times before the end of January....just plain stupid....and 3 games during the Holiday break?....well, at least they are on the road and not at home in front of an empty Mabee Center.... jmg1984
since schedules are being talked about, any info on what cities are vying for the tourney after next year?
jupiter2
I might sound like a broken record but I'd like to see New Mexico and Oral Roberts play another home and home series. Their last two game series was very exciting and competitive. Jupiter Out GO LOBOS!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
theeagleman5
Agree, Jupiter...ORU and New Mexico should be playing....those were two outstanding and competitive games.....bring it on!....
TrueBlue82
Thursday, Jan. 5 North Dakota State (could bad weather in Detroit make us late to our own home game?) Saturday, Jan. 7 South Dakota State (5th game in 10 days - bound to be some tired legs at this point) At first, I was pleased that we didn't have the normal late December home games during the students' Christmas break - but then I found out that ORU isn't back in session until January 9, so most students will still miss the NDSU/SDSU games. Old Titan
since schedules are being talked about, any info on what cities are vying for the tourney after next year? The most likely scenario is for Sioux Falls to retain the tournament for 2013 and 2014. If it finally moves for two years after that, the most likely destination is Omaha, where new member UNO would host in a facility other than their home court. The Tulsa Sports Commission likely will not even bid on the tournament for '13 & '14 - they're trying to again land the NCAA second-and-third-round sessions at the BOK, and they can't/won't host both tournaments in the same year.
