Old Titan Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Surprises: No. 9 Oklahoma not in line to host a Super Regional should they advance Dallas Baptist sent to Tucson Oregon gets to stay on the west coast at Santa Barbara 2023 CWS participant and ORU postseason nemesis TCU left out Two Eastern Time Zone teams sent to Norman (UCONN and Duke - maybe the committee thought it was basketball?) Stone Cold Locks: ESPN "The Committee" would put Texas and Texas A&M together if it was women's lacrosse, much less baseball. 3
Old Titan Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 ...and how come ORU keeps getting lined up with Duke in NCAA postseason play? Hasn't this university done enough already battling devils?? 6
ORUTex Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Apparently OU has chosen to play the afternoon game. 1pm Friday. https://www.ncaa.com/championships/baseball/d1/broadcast-info

Bad enough it's a work day for fans in the OKC area, even if were the evening game. No way the crowd will be as juiced for the Sooners as they would in the nightcap. FWIW, ORU just came off tree straight games in higher temps this week in Tulsa, while OU played in air-conditioned comfort at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington for the Big XII tournament. Not to sound fatalistic, but that schedule also gives the loser of the 1-vs-4 contest a leg-up for the elimination game at 1pm Saturday: the loser of the 2-vs-3 game Friday evening will only have somewhere around 12 hours in between contests, even less if there are weather delays. I wonder if that went into their thinking. More likely they like the idea of having Friday night off and most of Saturday before playing Saturday night. I don't know. It will be interesting to see what the other hosts do. We played OSU on Friday night last year, didn't we?
EagleManiac Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Looks like they changed it. Now the ORU v OU game is showing as the evening game.

Now that it's a night game I'm thinking about it. Gotta see what's going on at the home front. May also just try to pop up Saturday for game 2. I'm counting the offering at church on Sunday so I have to be home Sunday morning. 2

You wouldn't want to miss us win another regional championship, would you???

OKC Eagle Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 And we get no better than the number 8 team in the super regional. 2
ORU82 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Otis, are you trying to tell us you have become one of the "Temple money changers"? jk 1
Otis 83 Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Got the green light. I put in a request for tickets. Anyone stayed in Norman and has an affordable inn that you would recommend? 1 2
Old Titan Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 We need to move these conversations to the “Norman Regional” thread. “Bracketology” is done! 1
Popular Post TrueBlue82 Posted May 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2024 ORU wasn't the only 2023 College World Series participant to struggle in 2024. Ironically, the two teams to finish 2 and BBQ in Omaha (Virginia and Tennessee) were the only teams of last year's final eight to earn National Seeds in 2024 (Tennessee at 1 and Virginia at 12). Defending National Champs LSU and Wake Forest earned 2 seeds, while National Runner-up Florida earned one of the highly controversial "last four in" #3 seeds despite finishing the season 28-27 (and probably should have been excluded, IMHO). And, finally, TCU and Stanford both missed the tournament altogether (can you imagine the frustration of those fan bases?). Interestingly, the eight 2023 Super Regional losers ALL returned to the tournament in 2024, with Kentucky earning a national seed (#2). You have to wonder if participation in the CWS might actually be a short-term negative to the teams, in that the players get additional exposure which raises their draft stock (decimating a team's roster) and the coaches fall behind competitors on valuable recruiting and transfer portal opportunities??? I still believe that CWS participation is a huge long-term positive, and that ORU will see some of those benefits in future years, but I was very surprised to see how most of the 2023 CWS teams took a big step back in the following year. 4 5
