Somebody at Baseball America has a sick sense of humor:  their latest regional projection is "The Payback Tour" for ORU's 2023 postseason opponents:

  1. Oklahoma State
  2. Dallas Baptist
  3. Oregon
  4. ORU

The Pokes dropped a game to 8th seed UCF late last night.  They should be on the list of those "respectively scrambling for their regional-hosting lives" as many had them as the 16 seed hosting.  I do have to believe this bracket projection was a bit although I can guarantee you no one from the other three schools is laughing.

Although Arkansas would be a very difficult opponent to move past in order to win a regional.

Collegesportsmadness.com projects ORU as a 4 seed at Texas A&M, with Texas as a 2 seed and Lamar as a 3 seed.

That would match us up with our old pitching coach, Sean Snedeker, who is the pitching coach at Lamar.

Only surprise is Arizona stealing a site from the likes of Florida, Florida State, or Wake Forest. That now means three regionals west of the Great Plains as opposed to only two (Corvallis and Santa Barbara) that had been predicted

And, based on what we saw this weekend, all 16 of the No. 1 Seeds are going to bed tonight with the same thought keeping them awake: “Please don’t give us Dallas Baptist as a No. 2”. 😬

Haha!  And, ORU has three sites to be sent to that would save on travel costs - Norman, Stillwater, and Fayetteville.  All three locations have familiarity to the Golden Eagles that could provide them with comfort of their surroundings.  With ORU's RPI and SOS, they should be a #4 against one of the top 8 national seeds.  Hopefully it won't be to College Station just for travel reasons.  Regardless, we should have the 6:00 game in any of the locations as the host team gets to select their preferred time to play.

If I were a betting man, here’s where I put my money on ORU’s destination:

  • WIN - Fayetteville
  • PLACE - Norman
  • SHOW - College Station
  • LONG SHOT - Stillwater

I would flip the Place and Show (simply because A&M has a higher ranking) but agree that Fayetteville makes a LOT of sense.  Now, watch us get sent to Santa Barbara.  😉

The only reason that we get sent to a non top-8 site is out of respect of our performance last season.  The selection committee has never been one for respecting a mid- or low-major program, but not every mid-major program has gone through a season like ours and earned its way into a NCAA regional like we have this year.  Those on the selection committee (and their friends) in the top eight may not want to deal with a hot ORU team and hope that ORU could knock off a #1 seed in one of the lower eight to give the higher seeded #1 seed a clearer path to Omaha.

Part of my insistence that it's Fayettevile rests in the fact that Kendall Rogers, long-time college baseball guru and bracketologist, has consistently slotted ORU in the Arkansas Regional.

Here are his picks for the local sites:

FAYETTEVILLE

  1. Arkansas
  2. Louisiana Tech
  3. Kansas State
  4. Oral Roberts

STILLWATER

  1. Oklahoma State
  2. Dallas Baptist
  3. Alabama
  4. Tulane

NORMAN

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Vanderbilt
  3. Connecticut
  4. SE Missouri State

COLLEGE STATION, TX

  1. Texas A&M
  2. Texas
  3. Nicholls State
  4. Grambling
