Old Titan
What's more likely: that Gert in Birmingham flips from O'Reilly to ORU vs. IPFW because it's two channels away, or that a hardcore college basketball fan queues up the same game on his iPad during halftime of the KU vs. Texas game? Boggles my mind that anybody would choose the former. What boggles the mind is thinking that either option is plausible. The only people that are going to watch ORU on ESPN3 are people who purposefully log-in to do so, with a sizeable percentage being fans of ORU's opponent. I challenge anyone connected to this "deal" to provide analytics (either now or later) that prove otherwise.
ORUJason
The deal gives us some visibility but mainly accessibility for players families, alums, recruits, maybe fans of other Summit League teams, and fans of our opponents. It is definitely a good thing to have it available and for it to not be potentially preempted. At the end of the day it is difficult to say whether it is better than, worse than, or comparable to the exposure and accessibility that we received with the FCS deal. Bad Blood
The only people that are going to watch ORU on ESPN3 are people who purposefully log-in to do so, with a sizeable percentage being fans of ORU's opponent. The only people that have EVER watched ORU regular season basketball have been folks that purposefully sought it out. And the people that care enough to purposefully seek out ORU basketball on FCS or the shyster preacher channel will do the same on ESPN3 Do you really think that the so-called "casual fan" was watching ORU vs. IPFW on a Saturday evening on FCS when marquee Power 5 games were on ESPN and ESPN2?
Chevy Chase
The switch was not made to catch some Random Joe who might accidentally stumble upon an ORU game. It was made to GUARANTEE that EVERYONE would have access to all games. Something that was not possible with FCS.
