Making Things Add Up

Well, TheEagleman certainly will be glad to admit he is wrong if MM can step up his game and win the starting PG spot.....sounds like he is putting in the work and you have to admire a kid who walked on and earned the scholarship........but yeah, Jackson and Billbury will be breathing down his neck.....those redshirt freshman are supposed to have some serious game..... :nerd:

After further review of the roster...

1. Good to see Jorden Kaufmann on there - his name had been missing in some previous rosters.

2. No Trammel White shouldn't be that big of a surprise, considering ORU never officially acknowledged his signing (it was reported by Jimmy Tramel in the Tulsa World, with quotes from Coach Sutton). Curious to see if White is enrolled at ORU to get caught up academically, or if he has to do it on his own on the outside, similar to what Larry Owens did at TCC after his juco stint.

3. No Kris Obaseki listed, either - guess he's headed over the pond with his family. Never saw the guy play a minute of practice or pick-up games. Wonder where his career will lead next.

4. I've assumed all summer that the starting point guard spot was Mikey Manghum's to lose, but now I'm hearing the job is at least wide open, and may even be handed over to either Billbury or Jackson on opening day. Which would be pretty stunning: can't recall a freshman starting at point for Scott Sutton, unless you count Luke Spencer-Gardner, but considering LSG's age and prior experience when he arrived on campus, he hardly qualified as a rookie.

Jackson practiced with the team during early 2012....TheEagleman wouldn't be shocked if he were the starter if he is as good as advertised and Mikey got significant minutes as the backup like he did last year.....Billbury comes highly touted and is taller than Jackson at 6-2 but not sure if he is ready to take over....this 3-way battle should make for an interesting October..... :nerd:

I am a big Mikey fan, but the PG spot (along with ALL others) should be 'wide open'. Put the best players on the floor, no matter their classification. Anything less would be the equivalent of basketball socialism.

Sutton's M.O. has always been to play the older, more experienced player over the younger, arguably more talented player. When it comes to a point guard, they've always wanted a reliable quarterback who knows what to do and won't panic in the tight spots.

But, if you can just weather the storm for that initial year with a talented but green freshman point guard, the beautiful thing is that you've got a guy you can simply pencil into the line-up for the following three years.

Interesting. I had heard that Tramel White was on campus and eligible - but he is not listed on the roster. Wonder if are waiting on the NCAA Clearinghouse again (like with Jackson & Bilbury last year)?

White would be a nice addition....he would have to be the favorite to start at PG....but if he's not on the roster....I find that strange......surely somebody has the scoop here..... :nerd:
