ManiacAlum
Eagles win 5-2, overall sounds like a very good weekend. I think ASU was already a top 5 team according to the pseudo- RPI rankings.
theeagleman5
Sweet!....getting at least one win out there at #9 ASU was a lot better than #2 ranked OU did this week....great pitching by committee today with 7 guys hurling led by Bowen who started with 2 scoreless innings....at least we stay above .500 with a big weekend series coming vs. Missouri State.... Bogus Smith
Very good day for the Eagles today - and possibly a watermark weekend for the season ahead. We should have gone 2-1 this weekend, but last night just didn't happen for us for some reason. Today, we faced ASU's #1 pitcher, Brady Rogers, and he was good, but we were able to get to him in the fifth. He pitched against OU on Tuesday and I was surprised that he came out today when there is a mid-week series with CS-Fullerton on Tuesday/Wednesday next week (along with a weekend series versus their arch-rival Arizona next weekend). After a "meeting" with the team last night, Rob changed up some things and put a no-walk tolerance on the pitchers. After Bowen met his 45-pitch count limit (he's still rehabing), Tyler Sparks came in and did a stellar job in the next two innings; however, the fifth inning (after we score our 5 runs), Alec Smith comes in and after making quick order of the first two batters in the inning, he walks the third batter and is shown the bench. Sean Johnson comes in and finishes the inning (after pitching last night). Jason Stacy comes in to start the bottom of the sixth inning and gives up a single to the first guy and walks the second guy. Again, Rob goes and replaces Stacy with Liguori (who gave up the winning run last night with a walk) and Liguori throws strikes, but one of the strikes is a hit that scores two runs (charged to Stacy). When Lars walks one of the batters, the crowd goes wild yelling at Rob as to whether he's going to make another change, but it appeared that Rob wanted Lars to work through the inning to let him get some confidence back and he works through the jam on his own. Dan Martony, who did a good job earlier in the series, pitched two very good innings and showed his ability to be effective this season. Our closer, Matt Rush, came out for the ninth and promptly got two runners on base with an error and single and had the tying run at the plate with no outs. Matt worked out of the jam to preserve the inning and game. There were a lot of parents and friends at the game again today. Scott Sanderson, another of our previous Diamond Dinner speakers, was at the game today. Today's crowd was the smallest of the three days with about 2,500 in attendance. It was noticeable. There are some really big games coming up in the near future. Next weekend's Missouri State series (Friday at home; Sat/Sun in Springfield), Texas in Austin and San Diego State (Tony Gwynn's team) the first weekend in April. It should be some good baseball for the ORU-faithful in the upcoming weeks. I think it shows today that we can play with most anyone on a given day. theeagleman5
Thanks for the outstanding recap, Bogus....gotta love college baseball....TheEagleman took advantage of a beautiful 55 degree day here in Suburban Phily and took the grandsons over to watch Temple vs. St. Peters this afternoon....the Owls have a decent Atlantic 10 team and won their 9th straight today 11-7....the boys love baseball and it's totally free...no admission charge...probably about 250 in attendence....
