theeagleman5
....Gotta love the Butler Bulldogs....why can't we get these guys on our schedule?....
ORUTerry
I was really hoping Arizona would take out Connecticut. At least Butler is in the Final Four though. Sutton should have our players watch tape of the Bulldogs playing defense..... all summer long.
Old Titan
We think it's tough sharing a city with the University of Tulsa - how must IUPUI feel trying to compete for headlines, local recruits, and ticket buyers with everyone's sentimental favorite, the Butler Bulldogs? I mean, even the BU arena puts IUPUI's to shame: venerable Hinkle Fieldhouse, the original home of The Final Four, the Indiana High School Championship tournament, and the auditorium memorialized in the film Hoosiers, vs. the Jaguars minimalist Jungle. Did you see the thousands of fans at Hinkle that welcomed the Final Four-bound Bulldogs home after midnight on Saturday night? Not going to be easy for Ron Hunter's replacement to make much of a splash in town as long as the Bulldogs are riding so high.
theeagleman5
Butler is awesome....but VCU is INCREDIBLE!....beating Bill Self and his boys....they must be sick up in Jayhawk land tonight....they not only lost...they got toasted pretty good by a CAA school...poor Billy.... ManiacAlum
We think it's tough sharing a city with the University of Tulsa - how must IUPUI feel trying to compete for headlines, local recruits, and ticket buyers with everyone's sentimental favorite, the Butler Bulldogs? How about Valpo? They've spent so long patting themselves on the back for being the mid-major darlings of college basketball. And in the time since they earned their Sweet 16 appearance, the school they consider their rival has two Sweet 16's and now two Final Fours. tmh8286
Self merely highest-profile victim of game's evolving chipmunks "What we have in college basketball is a new food chain, and while the biggest, baddest animals on that chain remain the same -- Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and, yes, Kansas -- the rest of the chain has evolved. Even the animals in the middle of this food chain are vicious predators. In real life, VCU would never beat Kansas. That would be like a chipmunk eating an alligator. But this isn't real life. This is college basketball. And college basketball has changed over the years, most importantly cutting scholarships from 15 to 13 but also expanding the NCAA tournament from 48 to 64 (now 68) and putting teams of all sizes on television. Add all of that together -- the additional access to players, exposure and March Madness -- and a school like VCU is no longer a normal chipmunk. Now it's a chipmunk with 6-inch incisors. And they're all over the forest."
Old Titan
A friend I play basketball with e-mailed this to a bunch of us - forgive me if you already saw it: The Jayhawk (With apologies to Edgar Allen Poe) Flying high along its journey, when lightning struck it in the tourney Rolled in stiff upon a gurney, rigor mortis to the core The dream is gone, now awakened, another season lost, forsaken Confidence not stirred but shaken, stiff with pain and nothing more As fate returns for its encore Quoth the Jayhawk, "No Final Four" The easy road to being great, another cupcake lays in wait They just can't help but take the bait, a cakewalk through an open door History-making easy seeding, nine or higher, but misleading No one foresaw Kansas bleeding, they knew not what they had in store All stars assembled, full of gladness, before their dreams descend to sadness Drifting into late-March madness, as pressure builds in every pore Alarms along the road are sounded, the big-head bird is trapped and grounded Tracked along the road and hounded, worried when it cannot soar The night before, the mood is manic, with passage booked on the Titanic Steered once more by Captain Panic, another year is washed ashore This time with twins, both named Morris, the same old game unfolds before us As sirens squawk the same old chorus, the same song as the year before The Rams knew how to steal the scene, with David played by Jamie Skeen, They took their cue from Charlie Sheen, winning in the final score Another shocker for the Hawkers, sent packing back to their hurt locker Out-smarted by a coach named Shaka, with lesser talent on the floor Hurting, flirting with disaster, fleeting thoughts of distant rapture Lured this bird into its capture, tumbling through the same trapdoor Silence mutes the cheers and shouting, all that's left are tears and pouting And lots of time for Self-doubting: is Toupee Bill up to the chore? Or is he cursed forevermore? Quoth the Jayhawk, "No Final Four" "Toupee Bill"?? Wow...

tmh8286
Interesting tweet from the Summit League: SummitHoops Final 4 Fact: Oakland was #5 in Mid-Major Top 25 poll with 2 1st-place votes entering NCAA Tournament. Butler was No. 6, VCU was No. 14.

cope
That was a great run by VCU. Imagine how good Butler would have been this year if Gordon Hayward would have came back.
ORUTerry
Butler play very physical defense. VCU could not get separation to take the three point shots they are used to taking. VCU should have fed the ball down low to the big guy. What a great run by VCU!
theeagleman5
As predicted....UConn vs. Butler in the title game Monday Night...TheEagleman expects a close hard fought game....I think UConn has the edge...they are on quite a roll in the past month since the start of the Big East tournament....but who would dare count out those pesky Bulldogs....will give it some thought and make a prediction in the next 24 hrs..... theeagleman5
An amazing run by Butler to make the final two years in a row....that's something that Duke would be jealous of.....but twice in a row the Bulldogs will come up short to a BCS power...UConn sends Coach Calhoun to a nice retirement with a 74-68 victory...Does the kid coach from Butler take the UConn job?...probably not....TheEagleman hopes he is wrong on this one....rooting for Butler all the way!...
