Old Titan
Interesting blurb at the bottom of the "Team Information" page, from the 2009-2010 Men's Basketball Prospectus on orugoldeneagles.com: Notes/Clarifications: ORU lost three letterwinners from last season’s squad in addition to the loss of three seniors ... Reggie Guyton was dismissed from the team in January, while Andre Hardy transferred to Cal State-Fullerton ... Kamarachi Onyirioha left the basketball team to concentrate on his studies at ORU ... the Golden Eagles will play 13 home games after playing just 11 in 2008-09...ORU’s roster is comprised of 14 players from nine states and one foreign country ... head coach Scott Sutton needs 16 wins to become the second coach in ORU history to win 200 games. 2009-2010 Men's Basketball Prospectus
tmh8286
. . . completing the "losing six players two years in a row" merit badge.
Old Titan
Another note of interest: Rogers State is not listed on the prospectus schedule as one of our exhibition games, in contrast to what has been previously reported. Not exactly sure what the deal is there, but if that is indeed the case, I for one am not sorry to see them gone - that match-up was an embarrassing upset just waiting to happen. ORUTerry
Coach Sutton had hinted at Ugo's possible departure at the Coaches' Luncheon. He said that Ugo wanted to just be a student. I have lost track - does that mean we will only have 12 scholarship players? That means we could incur the loss of scholarship this year. We are in fact taking our "one scholarship penalty" hit this season.
ORUJason
Ugo (Kamarachi Onyirioha) will be remembered fondly as the player who took control of the Rogers State exhibition game down the stretch last season to help ORU avoid an embarrassing upset. Thank you Ugo!!!

ron
Roger State?.....TheEagleman says, bring 'em on!......that game was one of our more exciting contests last year...... Are we avoiding Roger State because we don't have Ugo to bail us out anymore? If we are afraid of Roger State, why are we playing those other, more talented teams? Even if they have a couple of weeks jump on us in terms of practice, I say we beat them no matter what! . . . aside from not playing them of course. Old Titan
WHERE DID ANYONE SAY WE WERE AVOIDING ROGERS STATE??? Geez, read the frickin' post again! I says: "I don't know WHY we're not playing RSU, but I'm just glad we aren't, if that's the case." It could be a scheduling conflict, it could be that THEY don't want to play, it could be any number of reasons, but I highly doubt it's because our coaching staff is avoiding them. And to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

And to suggest otherwise is ridiculous. Sorry if it came out unclear, OT. The first line of my post was meant to be funny, a joke as it were. I guess I should just have stuck with the smiling smileys. I think our "anytime, anywhere" coach has made it abundantly clear that he will take his team toe-to-toe with anyone. It was, however, correct that you should feel yourself spoken to because I don't understand the expression of relief at not having to play a good team that owns a different status than we do. That is precisely what has kept so many higher-status teams from playing us. I guess I prefer a system in which the cream rises to the top regardless where it was made (or trained). I think we are a good program that will continue to improve under a good coach. I am thankful for the programs that are giving us a shot at the next level by letting us play them. I believe that we are doing a bit of the same thing for teams under us and that we shouldn't be afraid of the consequences. Will it occasionally blow up in our face? Sure. Ask Kansas. But one game here or there, do you think that Kansas will be quaking in their boots if we ever meet them in the tournament? Maybe . . . but not necessarily anymore than against any other opponent that has seen our level of success over the past years and months. OT, if I might make a recommendation: I keep some pills that say "chill" on the label in the medicine cabinet and find myself needing to reach for them occasionally as well. They usually work for me, but sometimes, in retrospect, I recognize that I should have taken two.

tmh8286
Haven't heard of anyone no-showing. I've heard of at least one that's proven to be better than expected. Still sizing up the others. My son had a chance to watch the team in a pickup game last week. He said that Caleb Green, Larry Owens, Yemi, and Adam Spanich were all there working out with them. Word I got on Spanich is that his dad is now AD at Victory, and whenever he's in town he works out with the team. For those that weren't around or don't remember, Adam was the 1995 Mr. Basketball for Iowa, was recruited to ORU and played for one year, 1995-96, before transferring to USC and finishing his collegiate career there. There's a nice (somewhat recent) story about him heading up an impossible come-from-behind victory over the Oregon Ducks in 1999 here. In 2008 Adam played for the Oklahoma Cavalry, but I didn't find him on their current roster. I was surprised to hear of him around ORU again. Anyway, my son said Hunter McClintock looked very good - he thought it would be hard to keep him off the court this season. We'll see . . .
