tmh8286
This week George W. Bush, commenting on his father, said he was "almost too humble to be president." That remark kind of reminds me of Scott. Not that he's too humble to be coach, but that that is part of what's so likable about him. He truly is a humble guy - from his self-deprecating humor to his acceptance of responsibility when times are rough to the appreciation he shows to his somewhat small but incredibly loyal band of followers. Golden Boy
I think the bigger issue lately is competition from the BOk, the Indian casinos, and just really unfortunate economic times. Wojcik's style doesn't exactly endear fans. I wonder if part of that is he is trying to win ugly because that's what he has the talent for or if he's just not that great an offensive coach. Maybe a little of both. The comments were a wrong time, wrong place deal. Everyone was upset after that loss. There are some other things I noticed that bothered me, but I've kept all that off the boards. Then we have Sittler -- the local sports tabloid writer -- making a mountain out of a molehill. LEC isn't the problem. Why Woj was listening to that and not coaching his team is a whole other deal. This will pass. As for fun, everything I hear is that the current players are having a ball. The fans are a whole other deal. Some issues remain with the in-game production. Losing to OSU and OU the way we did certainly didn't do much to excite the casual fan. Gold, first of all, welcome back out of retirement...glad you're back...I think you make several quality points above and frankly I agree with everything you said here. Bottom line, it's obvious DW doesn't care if people like him, but rather he is simply interested in his team (and himself) being respected...problem is, I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive and if he's going to be blown out by Big Five opponents and in-state rivals like OU (by 25) and OSU (by 18) then lose tough games at home like BYU and Memphis, being "less-likable" makes the climb toward earning folks' respect rather steep and perhaps more slippery. Oh, I'm still at 19,999 posts on ITS. I'm not burning that lost post on just anything, though I'll admit this mess made me think about it. Gold is till out there, you just have to know where to look. As for your comments, that's certainly part of it. I think we all needed to calm down more than anything. Woj's comments, which were then paraphrased on the board by a couple of folks who have been critical of him for awhile (not saying they are bad posters, just stating the reality of the situation), did not help anything. I get a lot of TU fan email and most of us appear to be on the same page. And people even appear to be having fun with it . . . Mad Dog even has a blog now. ORUJason
I'm sure that Doug is focused on his players and his assistant coaches, and I'm sure he is trying to not be distracted by the response to his comments. But I would guess that Doug does care if people like him, because if the fan base turns against him, he's gone. That is why the response from the fans is impatient and unrealistic. When you lose a game by a point to a team of the quality of Memphis, you have done just about everything you could as a coach to get the win. Your players just missed one more shot than they should have or didn't get one more defensive stop that they needed to. I don't think you lay a defeat like that at the feet of the head coach. Now getting blown out by 30+ by OU and around 20 by OSU you can lay at the feet of the head coach. TU beat Texas A & M. For where they are right now, that is a good win. If TU runs off Doug Wojcik, it will hurt their program big time.

Old Titan
ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?? Now I don't feel nearly as bad, with my meager six thou. Sometimes I'm almost embarrassed to post any more. Almost . . . Yeah, but if you take out the posts where he simply calls me and Voice "fat", Gold*'s total drops down to a mere 4 digits. Gold*
Yeah, but if you take out the posts where he simply calls me and Voice "fat", Gold*'s total drops down to a mere 4 digits. Saw a guy on an LSU board with over 100,000 posts. When I found out I was near Georgia Tech Swagger (of NCAAbbs fame, er, infamy) I decided that was prolly enough.
