Dallas Baptist travels to Tulsa for a weekend series on Feb 28 - Mar 2 with times TBA.

Very happy to see DBU back on the schedule.  Hopefully this means we have a return trip to DBU in 2026.  Wish there was a trip to Texas sometime in 2025.

Arguably shaping into one of the best ORU non-con schedules ever; other than Arkansas-Pine Bluff everything looks highly competitive.

Looking forward to it!

Let's hope we don't make UAPB a competitive weekend.  🙄

The weather is warmer after basketball season.  Unfortunately, we are 90 days (and cold winter days) away from the oasis called baseball. 🌴☀️⚾

The baseball schedule is out: #ORUBase Reveals 2025 Schedule!

Have to play in Minneapolis before April.  That should be a road trip to remember. 🥶

I think we had the entire non-conference schedule pegged except for the Southern Indiana series.  Good sleuthing, message board team!

Ha! Well as this point, I'm not going anywhere near JLJ until the temperatures increase by about 25 degrees!

Posted this previously in the UAPB at ORU thread, but realized that it really belonged in the 2025 Baseball Schedule topic.

The Summit League has a "staggered" schedule, where each school plays every other school at least once, and three of the five other schools twice. This definitely gives an advantage to some schools compared to the others, based upon who they do (or don't) play. I don't know how the League determines the three extra teams on each school's schedule, but I was intrigued that only ONE team drew the short straw of having ALL of its "extra" games against teams earning a first-place vote in the pre-season poll. And, of course, that one team is.... ORU (which plays UST, Omaha, and NDSU twice).

But, it gets even MORE interesting, in that ORU not only has the toughest schedule of all, but the rank of toughest to easiest schedule is EXACTLY in the order of the top six teams from the pre-season poll (ORU with the toughest, UST is second, and down the line to UNC having the easiest schedule). Now, seriously, the schedule was (obviously) produced well before the pre-season poll was conducted, so how did the schedule-makers design a staggered schedule of perfect "parity"??? The statistical chances of this happening are incredibly low.

For those curious, I calculated "toughest to easiest" using a 5,4,3,2,1 approach based upon the pre-season poll, with each team excluding themselves from the equation (ie, ORU would rank as a "5" for all opponents, while UST would rank as a "5" for ORU's schedule). Here are the three "extra" games for each team, with relative ranking and total:

ORU UST 5 Omaha 4 NDSU 3   12
UST ORU 5 Omaha 4 SDSU 2   11
Omaha ORU 5 UST 4 UNC 1   10
NDSU ORU 5 SDSU 2 UNC 1    8
SDSU UST 4 NDSU 2 UNC 1    7
UNC Omaha 3 NDSU 2 SDSU 1    6

I don't present this as some kind of conspiracy theory of the League against ORU (although I do think it is "interesting" that ORU was "randomly" assigned the toughest schedule). Rather, I am very intrigued by the perfect symmetry of the schedule and the pre-season polls. Does anyone have any insights into how the staggered schedule was determined by the league office?  Inquiring minds want to know!

I suppose the main point of this post is this...if ORU is successful in winning another regular season Summit title, they will have definitely earned it!

Very interesting work, Blue!! Great observations!

Great job, TrueBlue82, but I have a question:  who says these games were "randomly" assigned/weighted/tilted/etc.?

It may very well be by design by the league office, based on off-season forecasting of some sort before the official preseason poll was conducted, and in the interest of competitive parity.

And, I would think that Ryan Folmar might be fine - if not downright glad - that ORU will potentially face the most competitive conference schedule possible in the weeks leading up to the postseason (which goes along nicely with ORU annually scheduling as many power conference mid-week games as possible during Summit League play).

Iron sharpens iron, I say - bring on the best the Summit League has to offer (which, historically, may not be asking for much, but bring 'em on anyway! 😆)

OT I had a very similar reaction when I read @TrueBlue82 's insightful analysis.  First my mind was awash with consipiracy theories.  Commissioner Hockey and the Midco Cabal doing all they can to get someone, anyone, but our beloved Golden Eagles into the tournament.  Then I thought "bring it on!"  If we can't win the Summit League under these, or any, conditions we aren't going to do anything in the post season anyway.  Running through whatever gauntlet the league can muster will not only make the team tougher and more ready for battle but also make the conference championship all the sweeter.

Now I just need my FIL to buy that tear drop trailer so I can stay at a state park in Omaha during the Summit League tournament and enjoy the wins.

Summit League Standings through 3/8/25

https://thesummitleague.org/standings.aspx?path=baseball

Seems that any team can present issues this season but St. Thomas & UNC could make a run.

Based upon results to date, only St. Thomas and Omaha (wins at LSU and Kansas) appear to have the firepower to potentially contend with ORU this season. And, although St. Thomas is the defending Summit regular season champion, the Tommies are still ineligible for the Summit League Tournament this season.  Therefore, the biggest challenge to ORU will come from Omaha - and from playing the tournament on their home field.
