Otis 83 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 ORU off to a good start up 4-1 going into the top of the 5th. Jakob Hall has 5 punch outs and only allowed 3 hits so far with the lone run coming on a home run. A Summit League insider told me the league office is furiously engaged with AI to find a way to NOT name Hall the loan recipient of POTW. 3
theeagleman5 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 ORU kicking some serious butt today....10-1 in the 7th....3 HRs for the Good Guys....maybe the Rocky Mountain air is doing the trick....GO BLUE!!!
Otis 83 Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 I thought Hall's day was going to be done after 6 but he was very efficient in the 6th. He's thrown 89 pitches, 51 strikes btw, so he may come back for the 7th. My league insider reports the AI machine is working so furiously that the lights have dimmed in the league office. 1 1
theeagleman5 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Make that FOUR HRs today.....11-2 now ORU in the home 7th...........
Otis 83 Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 Hall gives up a triple after HBP allowing Northern CO to extend the game by avoiding getting run ruled. That's a shame. Hall is up to 8Ks. 1
Bogus Smith Posted April 5 Posted April 5 The good guys win 16-3. This is the type of game and scoring that we are used to seeing. Hopefully we are seeing the start of the season that we have all come to expect for these guys. 2
TrueBlue82 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 I watched the ORU Coaches Show from Wednesday this morning, and was (once again) very impressed with Coach Folmar. He wasn't panicking, but was also very aware of his team's performance so far this year, and was attempting to instill a sense of urgency within the squad. But, as he said, this team has some talent, and he trusts in the process that the coaches and players go through over the course of the season. Sometimes, it just takes time, and if you try to change too many things at once, it can spiral in the wrong direction. So, they're going to stick to the process and just keep working at it. Hopefully, today's game was a turning point for this season, with a 16-3 8 inning run rule victory. To hold the Bears to three runs with the wind blowing out is quite a feat, as UNC scored 64 runs in a sweep of South Dakota State on the road last weekend. Weather will be cool for the Saturday and Sunday games, with the wind expected to be a steady 35-40 mph, more than DOUBLE today's 17 mph wind. Not good baseball conditions, which normally levels the competition on the field. 6
Bogus Smith Posted April 6 Posted April 6 We seem to play well behind Jakob's pitching. The real tell-tale sign will be how we do behind Caravalho and Fowler in the remaining two games. We need their pitching to be improved and our offense to take advantage of the weather conditions, just like the Bears will have against our pitching. If we can have the same energy and focus that we had today, this may be a corner-turning part of the season. 2 1
Old Titan Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Watching the Midco broadcast, I was really happy to see the guys having fun for a change, celebrating their scores and inning-ending defensive plays in and around the dugout. There's no tonic like a successful road trip to bring a struggling team together. Hopefully (as Bogus pointed out) we can get some decent pitching and defense in these next two games. Unfortunately, the prevailing south wind/gale that ignited the Geagles' home run tally today will be switching around for the weekend and blowing in from the left-to-right foul poles. Pitching and defense should be at a premium in Games 2 and 3, which based on what we saw in Game 1, are NOT strong suits for the Bears. Their catcher couldn't throw ANYONE out trying to steal second with the wind at his back today; can't imagine him having much better luck in Saturday and Sunday's predicted conditions. And, their outfielders could/should have been tacked with a half-dozen errors for assorted bobbles, outright boots, and errant inbound throws that led to multiple extra bases for the good guys. I say get on base any way you can, and run 'em into the ground. 1
Old Titan Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I’ve never heard of a college baseball game being postponed due to high winds alone. Don’t get me started about that classic ORU-Minnesota slugfest back in the 80’s! 1 2
Bogus Smith Posted April 6 Posted April 6 There are a lot of players and coaches happy to stay in their hotel lobby and not have to run in those temperatures today. Unfortunately, tomorrow does not look much better - maybe even higher wind gusts. 2
TrueBlue82 Posted April 7 Posted April 7 ORU is also fortunate that all other teams in the Summit are spending the weekends beating each other up. No team is running away with it, and only two games separate first and fifth place. If ORU can return to form and take care of business for a couple of weekends, the Eagles should be right back in the thick of it - and could even find themselves as title contenders by season’s end. Lots of baseball still to be played. 3

Good guys up 2-0 after the top of the first. HBP, BB and some timely hits lead to a lot of base runners. From what we saw in the opening half inning is that it appears Coach Fulmer's plan is to make it a very long day for the Northern Colorado catcher. A lot of aggressive base running and not any sign of improvement behind the plate.
Otis 83 Posted April 7 Author Posted April 7 Tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. This game has a clock on it due to ORU needing to catch a flight back to Tulsa tonight. Will the good guys pull it out or will they have the very odd tie on their ledger this season? The first step is a quick bottom of the 7th so they get a chance to swing their bats one more time. Dalton Patton needs to be efficient and the men in the field need to be sharp. 1
Bogus Smith Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Does a draw still count as a sweep since no games were lost in the series? Asking for a friend..... 1

This year, a 2-0-1 series is definitely a WIN. And, coming back with two runs in the final inning to steal a tie from what looked like a sure loss is about as close to a sweep as you can get. Here's an interesting stat...through the first four series of the Summit season, the home team has a record of 8-19-1. Hopefully, we can get the home team a little closer to even next week at JLJ. 2
