ORU at SDSU

ORU led 63-62 and then the bottom fell out as SDSU finished with a 21-9 run.  The Eagles just play too up and down to win on the road and now are 2-11 away from the Mabee Center.  They forced some early turnovers but none in the second half.

Hopefully Coach Springmann will work with the team on defense in the offseason.  That has to be the focus because you cannot give up 80 plus a game and expect to win.

So many things to ponder and honestly it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. For a team that has competed with some really good teams this year it really is a bit perplexing how we are fizzling out instead of peaking in February. Some things to consider are too much Hero ball, not enough passing, lack of intensity and hustle at times, players not listening, 1st year coach’s inexperience, needing players that buy into HCRS system. As a fan it is hard to watch our team that has the potential to win their conference under achievie and end up with a disappointing year.  Believing that the ship gets righted and smoother sailing ⛵️ ahead!

The only good thing is that ORU did play better than Thursday night versus St. Thomas.  They did come out and play SDSU tough for most of the game but ran out of gas in the final 6-7 minutes.  So they were competitive, which I think was something we were unsure about after losing so badly to St. Thomas.

This team has still really not found its identity.  We see glimpses of what they could be and then we see a team that looks lost.  There is still time.  I hope they do eventually put it all together because it could be special. Thompson, Weaver, McBride have always been winners and helped the Eagles so much over the last few years.

Amen to all of the above!! TheEagleman is extremely frustrated and disappointed with this team....everytime it seems we have turned the corner there is a regression.....and we just seem to fail to show up on the road which I am just not getting.....arena was only half full yesterday....the game was there for the taking in the final 5 minutes but guessing McBride and Thompson both out of gas playing 40 minutes.....SMH.....opening another bottle of Sangria for the Big Game.....🍷🍷🙄🍷🍷

The bench and the big's have struggled all year and that is why we see such up and down play from the Eagles.  ORU is not able to sustain runs/good moments because of these weaknesses.

I would also add that McBride and Thompson play too many minutes and therefore get fatigued (mentally and physically) at the end of games.

Every time the good guys get a sizable lead in a game (usually the first half), the Mrs. & I say, "no lead is too big to blow!"  Every time this season we have been proven correct. 🤷‍♂️

ORU is very low in college basketball stats in three main areas: defense, rebounds, and assists.  If they were low in say one area then you could live with it but 3 is very hard to overcome.  The Eagles are at their best when they get steals and hit 3s but that is hard to do on a continuous basis, night in and night out.

ORU is at its best when they are even or win the rebounding war and have double digit assist totals.  When that happens they have won.  That is the secret to their success this season.
