ORU at St. Thomas

Huge game in the Summit League this Thursday night in Minnesota....both teams tied for 3rd (5-4) and the winner will be sitting pretty with a great shot to grab a  #1 or #2 seed in the March Tournament.....Tommies are VERY tough at home (8-2) but have lost 3 of their last 5 games.....lest we forget they smoked the Good Guys at Mabee last month in one of our most embarrassing performances of the season....TheEagleman is hoping that our guys are flying north with revenge on their minds.....ORU will have to bring the A game in order to have a chance of winning at St. Thomas ....we really need to get a split on this trip if there is any hope of getting a top two seed in Sioux Falls.....expecting the Golden Eagles to be at least a 4 or 5 point dog in this contest....                                                    .:shield-logo:   Image result for st thomas university minneapolis logo

ORU has been good at home but 2-9 on the road this season.  Defense and rebounding travel and help win games away from home.  Which Eagles team will show up? We will really need the bigs (Herron, Jones, and Smith) to step up to have any chance tomorrow night.

St. Thomas is tough because they do not turn the ball over and have a variety of guys that can beat you on any given night.

2-9 on the road this season is not a bright spot so this is the time of the year this needs to change. The conference tournament is just around the corner and learning to win in a hostile environment now will be critical when we have to win 3 games in a row. Tournament teams step up and get the job this time of year. Let’s go Eagles!

Tommies are a strong 7.5 point favorite......and Yeah the ORU troubles on the road this season also bother TheEagleman.....but we have won at Denver and Montana State which are not the easiset places to play....and I sit here and ponder that what are the chances that my beloved alma mater will lose both games in a season to a school that was D-III just two years ago.....how embarrassing is that?....yeah, I know St. Thomas has come along way and they play very smart basketball.....but they still should not have the horses to beat a program like the Golden Eagles.....this will be a VERY TOUGH game tonight but expecting Coach Springmann to have the Good Guys focused and ready....it will come down to the final moments but TheEagleman has good vibes.....ORU 76  St. Thomas 73....GO BLUE!!! :tb-white:

The Tommies play a very deliberate style of basketball - typically running the shot clock down to near zero. The key is to grab rebounds and take a lead. Very hard to speed them up and they don’t commit many turnovers. We need to shoot well and play with intensity. Our post players have to show up.

One of the issues that gave ORU a lot of trouble in the first matchup was St. Thomas's bench.  They outscored ORU 31-8 and their bigs hit for 24, when they usually only average 10 points per game.  The Eagles had trouble with their bigs because they are quick and can hit the 3, which gave our centers a hard time.  Coach will need to figure that problem out for ORU to have a chance tonight.

No doubt, defense is going to win this game. Hope Springmann lights 'em up in the pregame talk so they come out aggressive.  We have seen some more aggressive defense lately. They're gonna have to bring it tonight.

This team is so frustrating to watch. Nobody wants to guard or rebound.

IMHO, this is the most uninspired ORU basketball team I remember in a very long time.  Capable, athletic, talented and with a ton of potential but uninspired and not motivated to compete!

Layup line, St. Thomas might get to a 100!  No fight, energy, or life in ORU.  It looked like they gave up as soon as the game started.

The lack of effort has been a problem since day one.

Unfortunately, I am starting to think this is a coaching issue. There are players on this season’s team that have regressed and aren’t playing with the same intensity as they used to.

ORU never matches the opponents energy. The talent is there. We’ve seen it before but when the ball is tipped there’s no fight.

Couldn't agree more Rob, and at this stage of the season you have to ask some tough questions that all lead back to coaching! Why does a talented team not compete? Why is coach not leading or motivating them? Why is playing guys that won't hustle, play D or rebound? Who is coaching our bigs? Jones has 3 fouls in 9 minutes, same stupid fouls over and over again- is he not being coached properly or is coach playing him when he won't listen?

This is embarrassing!!

TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT!!!! We are not playing UConn tonight....this is an opponent 2 years removed from D-III. TheEagleman is ashamed of this team. 🤬

Losing by thirty.

To a D3 school.

In a high school gym.

Wondering which powers-that-be from ORU might be in attendance tonight, and if they realize just how far the program's fortunes have fallen in such a short time, and how long and hard the climb back to respectability will now be.
