It looks like Smith went to the same prep school as Sir Isaac, so maybe that helped in bringing him to the Eagles!  24/7 Sports says that he is a physical speciman (6'9 270) who runs the floor well and is excellent at finishing above the rim.  He sounds a lot like Lufile.  Smith was at AM for 2 years but only played one minute.  Not sure why he never saw the court in that time frame.

He was a 3 star prospect that was ranked 10th in the state of Texas.  Sounds like a good fit for ORU.

We talked about having a football team at ORU and Smith would make a nice linebacker.  Different sites have him listed in weight from 230 to 270.  Not sure exactly where he falls in the category but on his videos he looks really solid.  He and Herron should make a good 1-2 punch at the 5 spot.

Here's a tidbit on Ashton that @theeagleman5 will appreciate:

Personal
Has a very strong basketball background as his mother played at North Texas, father played at Houston, uncle played at Syracuse and his grandfather, Lucious Jackson, was the fourth overall pick in the 1964 NBA Draft and played for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Smith's final three schools were: ORU, Tulsa, and Western Kentucky but we won't go there!  Donald Glover Shrug GIF

Lucious "Luke" Jackson was a favorite of a young Eagleman back in the 60s....he was a important player on the 67-68 NBA Championship team led by Wilt Chamberlain. Jackson was about the same size as Smith...6'9" and probably 260...a real wide body who played PF and back up C to Wilt......he also played on the US Gold medal team in the 1964 Olympics....Image result for lucious jackson sixers

That's a BIG pick up. Really excited that we nabbed another big man. Does he have three years of eligibility then or just two?

At the 1:50 clip of that video, you can see Herron passing him the ball for yet another dunk.  I can see Kareem and McBride driving and dishing to Smith for a few dunks this year.  Doctor Dunkenstein 2!

Three since he redshirted as a freshman.

Maybe he can pick up a fourth year as a medical redshirt since he was out last year for his foot injury and didn't see the court for the required amount of time.

Definitely the kind of body and presence this team will need. He looks like a real difference maker in the paint. Even in high school he looked filled out. Pass him the ball and get out of the way. Good get.

He might be spending a lot of time in the new athletic center if they still have the ##### minimum number of makes in summer.

Player development coaches have a fun summer ahead doing their Eli magic with him. Develop him like they did lufile and we have a monster inside.

and based on that video - if we can get Ashton, sir Isaac, and Kareem in a dunk contest - should be exciting stuff.

It will be great to see what Ashton does now that he has a couple of years of experience working at the D1 level.  At the time of his video above, he was good around the rim, but he isn't going to get any of his defenders to come out to the perimeter with him until he gets his mid-range and 3-pt shots going down.  This probably translates to his free throw shooting as well, so making the players make their free throws to get out of the gym will hopefully be a great opportunity to make improvements during the summer/fall.

Ashton has the rare combination of size/strength and leaping ability.  Usually a big man has one or the other but rarely both.  On a side note has ORU ever had two guys on a roster that played on the same high school team (Herron and Smith)? Maybe a first?
