Oklahoma Baptist vs. ORU

Oklahoma Bapt. scores 86 against ORU...how many will Utah State put up? Thankfully Max and McBride combined for 45 and we hold on to win by 12. Not pretty and can't wait to hear what those in attendance have to say. Expected a 3-2 start but no style points earned....😲

OBU’s leading scorer DJ Freeman was recruited by ORU, and would likely have been playing this game in a white uniform if COVID hadn’t hit.  The NCAA decision to add a year of eligibility created a situation where many seniors were “squeezed” out of their D1 roster spot.  DJ was one of those casualties.  He probably had added incentive to play his best game tonight, and nearly doubled his season scoring average.

Sloppy game tonight.  If ORU plays the same way at Utah State, the 4-0 Aggies will run the Eagles out of the gym.

The first ten minutes of the game, ORU played pretty well but after that they really struggled.  About that time, OBU threw the full court press at the Eagles and that seemed to throw the guys completely off their game.  Been joking about Max being our best rebounder, but he has really been that this year.  He had a double double tonight and guessing that is the first one in his 4 years at ORU.

Coach Mills said in the post game that this was an opportunity to play various guys together and then decide who should get the minutes and who should sit out.  Nothing against the bench but DJ and Patrick look like the only guys that deserve court time.  I was hoping Trey,Cam, D Williams, and or Clover might shine and show us something but they have all really struggled.  This team was supposed to have depth but basically they have seven guys who are ready to contribute and hopefully 8 when Herron returns.  Anyone know when Sir Isaac comes back?

I did notice that there did not seem to be any consistency in line ups so there was no opportunity for chemistry. Sloppy is the best word to describe our play. We had around 15 turnovers and lacked intensity other than the first 10 minutes and one stretch in the second half when they cut the lead to 5 and we were able to quickly push it back to 15 or so.

There is probably a fair amount of “looking past” these weaker opponents, but you would think competing for playing time would be motivation enough.

OBU had 3 decent shooters and they figured out that they could dribble past Vanover and score easy back-side layups.  Better get that figured out.
