ORU Soccer Player Killed in Crash

Was looking on the ORU athletics website and noticed one the photo of Eugene Quaynor he had tape around his wrist that said "family...soccer." It looks like he probably had other words written on wrist that were important to him. I've read so many good things about the young man. I wonder what else he had written on the tape. My heart hurts for his family, friends and teammates. Praying for them.

Seeing the Twitter graphic of Eugene O on the landing page made me want to find out what happened to the driver that caused Eugene's death.  In researching the case (on the Oklahoma Supreme Court Network), the perpetrator is still in jail on $500K bail since October 2022 and he has pled not guilty. I will be interested to hear how this defense plays out as his blood alcohol level was at .372 and going 73 mph 0.1 seconds before impact based on preliminary hearing testimony.  He is charged with Second Degree Murder and DUI - 2nd Offense (along with a couple of other charges).  His jury trial is set for 1/8/2024 - 16 months after the incident.  The wheels of justice are not speedy.

This guy pleads not guilty for a clear cut murder of a beloved young ORU soccer player....meanwhile Julius Jones sits in an Oklahoma prison found guilty of a murder he likely did not commit and was less than 6 hrs from execution back in 2022.....time for some changes down there in the Sooner State.....Gov. Stitt needs to take another look at the Jones unjust/racist conviction based on bogus evidence provided by the guy who likely did it and some lame police work over 20 yrs ago......TheEagleman hopes that the killer of Eugene O gets what he deserves..... 🙄

He probably plead not guilty hoping for a plea deal that could avoid a trial and lessen his charge.

No doubt.  I'm hopeful that the DA feels he has such a strong case that he will not give this guy anything less than Manslaughter - First Degree for getting behind the wheel in such an impaired condition.  They should also go after the place that served the alcohol to him and allowed him to leave in that condition.

Just heard on the radio this morning...

Justice is served. The jury found Nicholas Robinson guilty of 2nd degree murder and recommended a 35 year sentence, which the judge pronounced.

This is justice.....good stuff....but meanwhile Julius Jones sits in an Oklahoma prison serving a life sentence for a murder that he likely did not commit.....its shameful....at least give the guy a new trial......come on, Guv!!! and DA!!....read the details of this crime....about 25 years ago and the key witness was the guy who probably did the murder.....Julius was home eating dinner.....anyway.....the case needs a serious review by a new set of eyes.....🙏

35 years doesn't seem enough for someone that was given a death sentence for his actions.  The people who put Mr. Robinson in his condition were culpable and should also be given some responsibility for this tragic death.

Regardless, the justice system has spoken and we are grateful that someone was held responsible for this event.  We have wasted enough human life on this situation.
