Keenan Henderson
Hey everybody, Omaha is in town! Have not seen them in Tulsa since February 2020. Anyway, they are really struggling at 2-11 and their only D1 win was against Western Illinois about nine days ago. The Mavs do not have any all-star type guys that should worry the Golden Eagles. Should be another double-digit win, ORU 85-70.
ORUTex
Wow, how about an opening line of ORU -18? And a 97% chance to win, per ESPN's BPI. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401365650

They are 7-31 in the last year and a half. I would expect there coach to be fired at the end of the season and Omaha to begin rebuilding, unless they really turn things around in 2022. Old Titan
Wow, trying to imagine the last time Vegas had ORU as much as an 18-point favorite vs. a D1 opponent?

Keenan Henderson
Good to see Max recover from that early fall and then he went to the locker room. Maybe he twisted his ankle but came back and played well. Eagles just dominated the game in almost every area: rebounds, three-point shooting, and paint scoring. Nice night for some of the young guys in Clover and Herron. Besides the opening night against CSU, ORU's defense has been pretty good this season. Hopefully that will continue as ORU goes back on the road for a three-game trip.
theeagleman5
45 point win has to be one of the largest margins in Summit League history...And looks like we emptied the bench in the final 10 minutes so it could have been worse....bring on the Tommies next week in Minn...Go Blue!!! EagleManiac
That was a tough game to watch. Poor opponent and poor officiating. Omaha is not a division 1 team - felt bad for those guys out there. Just totally over matched. - What happened with DJ? I saw coach yell at him but didn't see what he did to get benched like that? - The bald white guy is maybe the worst official I have seen in years. He just about ruined any enjoyment the crowd might've gotten from the game. - It's a small sample size as he's only played a few garbage minutes this year, but I REALLY like Luka. I think he could be something. I understand why he's not playing right now, but I love his vision and the way he plays. He's far more athletic than I expect when I see him run out there. Hopefully he doesn't transfer. - I about lost my dinner when Max went down. Glad he was alright, but a tweaked ankle like that can nag you for the rest of the season if you're not careful. Hopefully he's not affected by it going forward.
Keenan Henderson
Francis came out and hit some big threes to get ORU rolling. He had 14 points in 15 minutes, just call him Larry Bird Jr! Lacis really struggled shooting last year but he seems to have gotten his confidence back this year. DJ picked up two early fouls in maybe 90 seconds and then after that ORU never really needed him. Omaha did beat a solid WIU team at home and lead by as many as 13 in that game. I would expect the Mavs to give ORU a much tougher game when they play in Omaha. theeagleman5
So DJ is in the dog house??? We need his talents to be successful in 2022...of course Coach did the same thing with Thompson couple weeks ago and it seems to have lit the fire under him.... ORUJason
I don’t think DJ is in the doghouse. He picked up 2 early fouls and sat on the bench. Then he wasn’t needed much in the 2nd half as it was a 30+ point lead. I liked seeing Lufile getting so much playing time. He rebounded well and scored on several putbacks including 1-2 dunks. I would love to see Lufile get 25 minutes a game in the Summit League contests.
ORUTex
Totally agree on Lufile. I think he's key to matching up with some of the XDSU bigs.

Didn't this happen somewhat recently with him too? I'll add my agreement to the comments on Eli. He's a beast down there on the block. ORUJason
Yes Lufile did start in DJ’s place at the start of the 2nd half. I assumed that was because he had been playing well in the 1st half. I guess we will see if that represents a change for the future but I doubt it.

Not necessarily implying that DJ is on the outs for the rest of the season. Was just curious if anyone knew what led to the benching. Coach seems to be handing out seats on the bench much more freely this year. I can't remember guys sitting for entire games like they are this year. eagle88
I want to give Kareem Thompson some duly deserved recognition for his unselfish play last night. Not only did Kareem have an overall good game but he did something very special towards the end of the game regarding his teammate Luca Tejivic. Luka came into the game with less than a 2 minutes left. With under a minute left Kareem passed the ball inside to Luca who missed a short shot. Luca got his own rebound and kicked it back to Kareem for a virtually uncontested 3. Instead of taking the 3 Kareem verbally said Luca and by his tone let Luca know that when he passed him the ball again he was to take the shot. Kareem passed Luca the ball and Luca made the shot thus allowing all ORU players to score last night. I could see Kareem realized it was a big moment for Luka to be put in the game and Kareem wanted to help boost Luka's confidence! You never know what will be the spark someone needs to gain confidence but be assured Kareem did his part last night to help Luka along! The best part is my 2 grandsons who both play basketball got to witness this and we got to talk about it on the way home.

St. Thomas doesn't really have a player that can match up with Elijah on the block. That might be the factor in the game if outside shooting is the same. Old Titan
I am not convinced DJ is a “starter” in the true sense of the word. He just seems fine with everything, and that’s not good. Unflappable is one thing; but indifferent is another. Starters need to play with passion and purpose. They don’t “go with the flow”, they MAKE the flow. That’s why I’m such a big Elijah Lufile fan: he’s just looking for a wall to run through. Just not sure DJ is all that interested in running through said wall. ORUTerry
I thought the crowd was a nice size given that it was New Years Day against a weak opponent. Mills took Weaver out after 2 quick fouls. He ended up playing only around 2 minutes and did not score. I think I heard somewhere that DJ is struggling with an injury (tendinitis?), so maybe they thought he could use the rest. It was nice to see us play the post players so much. There were times when we had three of them on the court at one time. Lufile is so big - and agile. He has quick feet and soft hands; 9 rebounds and 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting. We will need him as the season progresses. Herron is athletic and really talented. Just needs more minutes. Did you notice him bring the ball up the court? He also drained the only three pointer he took. His defense needs work, but it will get better with time. Clover played strong, with 7 rebounds and 8 points on 3 of 3 shooting and 2 of 2 free throws
