vcboy2000
Things are really heating up at Duke about the LAX team's actions. With it looking like race played a role in the picture, things could just be getting started. Check out the story on espn: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2389518

vcboy2000
Yes VuFan, LAX also happens to be the abbreviation for the international airport in Los Angeles. Lacrosse has been around much longer though.

vcboy2000
Thanks, statboy. Don't worry, VUFan. We all say dumb things some time. Just don't pay too much for car insurance. That would be really dumb.
Stl VU Fan
Actually, it is . . . check out www.lax.com Because somebody who made the website decided it was?
ORUTerry
Actually, it appears to a pretty common means of communicating lacrosse... I thought it was clever and then googled it and found a lot of different organizations and sites using the term.
vcboy2000
Terry, it's no use. A degree from VALPO means you know everything.
MoState417
The x is used just like in cross country running. LAX=lacrosse x-country=cross country

Stl VU Fan
Terry, it's no use. A degree from VALPO means you know everything. Which has nothing to do with me. I graduated from Rose-Hulman. But thanks for playing our game. LAX as an abbreviation for Lacrosse is news to me. Never, ever heard it before. Not once. Of course, I caught the "Cross" pun in the abbreviation, which makes me think that it is strictly a grass-roots usage and not an official abbreviation (such as LAX the airport, STL, VU, ORU, etc.) Whatever

Stl VU Fan
So did you just catch the bug from close association? Show me an official source that gives LAX as an abbreviation of LaCrosse, and I'll answer your question.
Otis 83
Show me an official source that gives LAX as an abbreviation of LaCrosse, and I'll answer your question. From this USA Today Article http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ ... lout_x.htm "Other wore signs that read, "It isn't what Duke has, but what it lax," a reference to a commonly used abbreviation for lacrosse." Here are some other sources. Take your pick. 5 minute Yahoo search. Who knows how many references I could have found if I had tried hard. www.thehoya.com/sports/022404/sports9.cfm http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.a ... exact&p=ol http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/Lacrosse http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.a ... exact&p=ol http://studentactivities.tamu.edu/Proce ... imnomx1392 http://www.stands4.com/bs.asp?st=LAX www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term ... id=1177191 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAX_(disambiguation) http://senseanddollars.thinkport.org/ea ... ecals.html

LAX an abbreviation of lacrosse. also makes you sound l33t." HUH??????? What in God's name is "l33t" supposed to mean? Still note that the number one meaning is the airport, but okay, I give. My response to your question is: "What bug?"
