"Alex" goes for win #2 tonight at Kansas City.  If he succeeds, he would be the first Ranger to win his first two career starts in 30 years.  That's amazing.

Chi Chi Gonzalez looks to build on an impressive first start as he faces off against Volquez. http://t.co/15NL8wgCcg pic.twitter.com/JybsVibxWE

Unbelievable. Three hit complete game shutout on the road over the reigning AL Champs. 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. What an incredible start to a major league career!

  • 2 weeks later...

Not sure if anyone noticed but Gonzalez thru 8 1/3 outstanding innings against the LA Dodgers on Tuesday night...gave up 5 hits and just 2 runs but got a no decision in a walk off 3-2 win for Texas.....Chi Chi is now 2-1 with a 0.90 ERA in four starts.....that's quite a first month in the majors for the kid from ORU....

Hard-luck no-decision for Alex vs. the Dodgers: took a 4-hit shutout into the 9th leading 2-0, got the first batter on a ground out before walking a guy on a 3-2 pitch.

Manager came out, presumably to lift him, but left him in to finish it instead.

Next pitch was a 2-run dong to tie the game and end Cheech's night.

Rangers won it on a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th, but that was a mistake by the rookie Texas manager; I'll bet next time he goes to the bullpen instead. Alex deserved a better fate than that after another sterling performance.

I thought he got squeezed on that 3-2 pitch. A guy pitching a shutout usually gets that call late in the game. That would have made it 2 outs. Even if he gives up the HR to Turner no harm done and he still gets the win.

Oh well, at least he didnt get the loss and still has an ERA under 1.00 through four quality starts. Amazing.

GREAT article about Alex and his tutelage under Rob Walton - sure makes ORU look good...

Rangers Watching Budding Star In Gonzalez (MLB.com)

Cheech takes the mound Tuesday night in Arlington vs. the A's, who he held to one run in 7 innings in Oakland before the bullpen blew up in a 7-0 loss (his only one so far).

What a great article about Gonzalez, Rob Walton and ORU baseball. Thanks for sharing!

That article should be posted on the ORU.edu website...it's the best recruiting tool we could ask for....although Walton is now at OSU....but hey, we went 2-0 against them this season....OR was right back in the day when he said that our sports teams will get ORU a lot more positive publicity than almost anything else....Gonzalez looks like he's going to be a stud....and seems like such a nice young man..... :nerd:

lot of talk on sports radio this evening before the game that the Rangers are in the market for Cole Hamels.  the speculation is that Chi Chi would likely be a target of the Phillies in the deal.

Re Cole Hamels trade talks: #Phillies have high-level scout watching #Rangers tonight. Chi Chi Gonzalez pitching. (@SandlerJ 1st reported.)

Can't imagine why the Rangers would make that trade, all things considered. Never trade young pitching that's proven at the MLB level!

Rangers have finally given Gonzalez some run support tonight. Texas leads Oakland 5-2 after five innings in Arlington. Cheech is looking strong once again.
