Old Titan Posted August 9, 2013 Share Posted August 9, 2013 The Preseason WNIT event has nothing to do with how a team finished the year before, or where they are projected to finish in the coming season. It's just another in a slew of preseason and holiday tournaments in which pretty much anyone can participate, depending on their own scheduling needs and the needs of the particular tournament. Preseason WNIT Tournament Overview The Women's National Invitation Tournament is an annual invitation-only tournament involving 16 of the nation's top women's Division I basketball teams. A team may participate no more than once in a four-year period. Additionally, only one institution per conference may play in the tournament in the same year. Teams are selected for the Preseason WNIT based on their program’s expected success for that season, their relevant past, their conference standings, fan base, and geographical location, to name a few criteria. Couldn't a case be made for EVERY SCHOOL IN DIVISION-1 based on "the program’s expected success for that season, their relevant past, their conference standings, fan base, and geographical location, to name a few criteria"? The Real Truth: "The Women's WNIT is the same as every other invitational tournament: we're trying to make money, so we pick whoever we want, and what we want are big, land-grant state schools with large followings, so maybe we can make some cash off their fans at the gate. We try to placate those big schools by throwing in a few sacrificial lambs like SFA or ORU in the opening rounds. We really don't care if any of those little schools are good or not - we just want them to serve as victims for the big schools that we are showcasing." Put THAT on your website, WNIT...
