theeagleman5
Already a surprise in the early first round...Hunter Dozier of Stephen F. Austin goes #8 to the Kansas City Royals.....MLB Network experts had the SS ranked as the 46th best player....ah, but who knows with this crapshoot?.....TheEagleman is glad to see a Southland foe go in the first round.....Will Alex Gonzalez also be selected in round 1 ???..... ORUalum
i heard a rumor that Jerry Jones was seen in the Royals draft room. :-D but seriously, good for dozier. Jim Callis' last 2 mock drafts had Cheech going either 17th to ChiSox or 19th to the Cardinals
Bogus Smith
After 20 picks, Alex is still one of the top five available players as mentioned by Baseball America. Cheech has been passed on by several teams expected to draft him in the first round.
ORUalum
it sounds like some of the college arms are going later than thought...thus pushing Cheech down some. (Stanek from Arkansas is also still undrafted) maybe the orioles draft him again. they are at 22. some of the analysis i've seen is that the Royals are trying to save money to spend in later rounds. the thought is that they can sign Dozier much cheaper than the players projected that high in the draft. Bogus Smith
Great news for Alex and the Rangers....it will be fun to see him pitch in a few years in Arlington.
ORUalum
whoever is representing him, they need to brand him as Chi Chi Gonzalez for differentiation purposes.

tmh8286
Congrats to Alex. Some nice things were said about him - as you might expect for a first round pick. Hope he finds the fast lane to the majors.

It would be fun to have another. This quote is from the first story "The recommended signing bonus for Gonzalez’s draft slot is $1.921 million." So at least he'll be able to pay off his student loans
theeagleman5
So Gonzalez is the first ORU player drafted in round 1 in 26 years.....wow!.....the last was Bob Zupcic in 1987......I believe that Zupcic was from the Philadelphia area and played his high school ball just about mile or so from where TheEagleman currently resides..... Bogus Smith
Cheech has been assigned to Spokane in Class A ball.
Bogus Smith
Very tough start for Cheech tonight in the Opening Night for the Spokane Indians. Cheech goes 1-2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs with one K. Starts off the year with a 16.20 ERA. Must have had some super-sized butterflies in that stomach tonight. The great thing about baseball.......there's always tomorrow night (or the next start) to look forward to.

White Sox seventh-round pick Trey Michalczewski of Jenks also was assigned to Bristol. The two are rooming together, according to a note from Bowen's mother.
