ORUJason
As we look forward to our CIT game tonight vs. UTA, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the statistics over the regular season, which definitely paint a picture of this year's team. Regular season Stats from ESPN.com http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics Warren Niles ended up 27th nationally in scoring with 19.1 points per game (22nd most points scored in nation) DBH 23rd nationally in rebounds with 9.7 per game None of our players were listed in the Top 100 in FG% nationally Taylor Smith from SFA was 1st nationally in FG % with 69.2% and Bjorklund from NDSU was 2nd with 67.3% NW St. led the nation in scoring with 81 ppg, UCA was 18th with 76.5 ppg, ORU was 102nd with 70.3 ppg Rebounds: NW St. 39.3 rpg 12th nationally, UCA 38.7 rpg 20th, SHSU 37.4 rpg 51st, ORU 35.7 rpg 121st FG%: SFA 46.9% 28th nationally & 1st in Southland, ORU & NW St. tied 46.1% 46th nationally & 2nd in Southland FT%: ORU 74.1% 36th nationally and 1st in Southland 3 pt.%: 36.3% 66th nationally and 1st in Southland Assists per game: 12.8 apg 162nd nationally and middle of pack in Southland Steals per game: NW St. 9.84 spg 5th nationally, ORU 6.13 spg 231st nationally & 7th in Southland Blocks per game: NW St. 4.77 big 41st nationally & 1st in Southland, ORU 3.8 big 131st & 6th in Southland The statistics confirm 5 things about this year's team that became fairly clear over the course of the season: ORU was carried by 2 strong seniors in Warren Niles and DBH. ORU was a good shooting team this year: 2nd in FG% in Southland, 1st in FT% and 1st in 3 pt.% in Southland ORU was slightly above average at rebounding 121st in nation and 4th in Southland ORU was average to slightly below average in defense: Blocks 131st & 6th in conf., Steals 231st & 7th in conf. ORU lacked consistent leadership from the PG position as no player was in the Top 100 for assists per game and the team was 162nd nationally in assists even though it was 102nd nationally in scoring. Statistically it is clear that NW St. is not a fluke for beating SFA and making the NCAA tournament. I hope they represent the Southland well. Here's hoping ORU also represents the Southland well tonight vs. UTA. Let's keep this season alive a little longer.
