theeagleman5
Conference foe Stephen F. Austin beat San Diego at home last night to move to 5-0....looks like we will have some competition in the Southland this year.....then again, they haven't exactly played a brutal schedule.....we will see what SFA is really made of when they play Texas A&M on Wednesday night...... :nerd:
TrueBlue82
SFA's record has been inflated by their non-conference strength of schedule (projected to rank 323 among 347 D-1 schools). Still, SFA will be our prime competition for the conference title, and I fully expect these two teams to earn the automatic byes into the Southland tournament semi-finals come March. Top to bottom, the conference appears to have an imbalance of "haves" vs. "have-nots", heavy on the latter. rpiforecast.com currently projects SFA and ORU to tie for the regular-season title at 14-4, Northwestern (LA) State to finish at 12-6... and no other team in the ten-team conference to have a winning record. While the conference season is yet to start, I don't think that projection is too far off-track.
theeagleman5
As of this moment....SFA is the only team in the Southland with a record above .500......
theeagleman5
SFA no longer undefeated....they lost 62-54 at Texas A&M tonight to fall to 5-1.....
theeagleman5
SFA beat LSU-Shreveport(???) today by about 30 to go to 6-1.....they are ranked #24 in the CBSSports.com RPI.......ORU is 127........
theeagleman5
SFA is now 7-1 and travels to OU to play the Sooners on Tuesday night while ORU takes on Arizona.....Central Arkansas got hammered at OSU today but did anyone notice that McNeese State won at Texas Tech?.....McNeese appears to have a decent team and is now 6-3.....these guys also won't be pushovers in the Southland.....looks like we will have several teams giving us a run this year..... ORUJason
A 6-3 Mcneese State team is a definite surprise. Digging a little deeper 3 of those wins are against Louisiana College, Centenary, and University of Texas at Tyler. their D-1 record appears to be 3-3. That is Mcneese's 1st win ever against a Big 12 opponent.
theeagleman5
SFA stuns OU in Norman last night by 56-55....they are now 8-1 and have to be considered the favorites heading into the Southland schedule.....this is a pretty good team, my friends...... theeagleman5
SFA now 9-1 after a blow out win vs. Grambling....looks like the Lumberjacks are the team to beat in the Southland.....
TheRevSFA
9-1 and off to one of our best starts in history. I know..we played LSU-S and a few others who don't count, but road wins at Tulsa and OU and Florida descriptive Sun Belt school are a boost. I look forward to our matches with y'all. You guys played OU well and I think we'll have good tight games. Only problem with our team is when we go ice cold, like we did against A&M, we do not have a fast paced offense to allow us to score points to catch up. If we can hit our shots, and keep the game at our tempo, we can win. Good luck in conference guys
ORUalum
after a poor non-conference season we are all hoping ORU can figure some things out for the conference season. like Eagleman said, SFA is the team to beat in the Southland. thanks for the kind words and best of luck to your team as well RevSFA. theeagleman5
SFA massacres Lamar, 79-43 and moves to 11-1...should be an interesting gauge of our ability when we play them a week from Saturday night at Mabee Center.....that's a game we will need to win if ORU expects to contend for the Southland Conference title..... theeagleman5
SFA moves to 12-1 with a 71-43 pounding of McNeese State last night.....these guys are going to be very tough to beat next Saturday night at Mabee Center.....we will have to bring the A game..... ORUTerry
They play tough defense and are very methodical on offense. Lots of back cuts and great passing. They wait for you to make a mistake and then take advantage. SFA is well coached and the players buy into the system. This will be a very difficult game. theeagleman5
CBSSports.com has SFA with an RPI of 53....Northwestern State is 57.....McNeese St. is 78.....ORU is 114........TU is 106.....
theeagleman5
SFA rolls to a relatively easy 77-69 victory at Central Arkansas tonight to move to an impressive 13-1...the visitors we in control for most of the game.....now they will get a chance to stake their claim to the outright Southland lead when they visit Mabee Center on Saturday night...sure is a shame that TheEagleman and ORU fans across the country will not get to view this match up live....I will have to wait until Sunday morning at 6am.....not gonna be pretty at that hour.....predictions will come tomorrow but this one is gonna be very tough for ORU to win..... theeagleman5
SFA goes to 15-1 coming back from a halftime deficit to beat SE Louisiana by double digits.....SHSU also beats UCA rather easily in their tune up for ORU on Saturday night....but the upset of the night in the Southland has lowly Nicholls State winning on the road at NW State by 15....that's a real stunner.....the ORU-SHSU game is gonna be a big one....SHSU now 11-6.....
