ORUalum
The ESPN article mentioned Kevi could become just the 8th player to score 3,000 points in women's basketball and that she started the season 113th in all time points scored. I decided to start a thread to count down the potential accomplishment. After looking at the record book, there are actually 3 players that have a shot of joining the 3,000 point club this season (Griner, Luper, and Delle Donne) Start of Season total points: ^Brittney Griner, Baylor ........................................................................... 2,425 (112 games) ^Kevi Luper, Oral Roberts ....................................................................... 2,277 (95 games) ^Elena Delle Donne, Delaware .................................................................2,258 (84 games) After 5 games Luper has scored 117 points 2,277 + 117 (5 games, Avg 23.4) 2,394 Current Total That places Kevi currently as the 74th all time scorer in NCAA Women's D1 history. That leaves 606 points to go with 23 regular season games remaining plus the postseason. Griner looks to be a lock to be the 8th player to 3,000 with Kevi having the chance to be the 9th if she stays healthy and ORU gets 3 or 4 postseason games while averaging around 23 or 24 pts. Delle Donne might have a tougher time as she is battling sickness and has only played one game this season.
theeagleman5
Assuming that she plays about 25 games this season....Looks like Kevi will have to average about 25 pts per game to reach the 3,000 mark....it's doable....last night's 40 vs. Missouri State was a good start....but opponents will be watching her closely...amazing that she got 40 last night....TheEagleman would have enjoyed watching that game......except for the ending..... ORUalum
Thru 8 games 2,277 + 176 (Avg 22.0) 2,453 Current Total That places Kevi currently as the 56th all time scorer in NCAA Women's D1 history. That leaves 547 points to go with 20 regular season games remaining plus the postseason.
ORUJason
So at a minimum, as long as Kevi stays healthy, counting 21 guaranteed games left on the schedule (at least 1 postseason game in southland tournament is guaranteed) she will need to average 26.1 points per game to reach 3000 points and she is currently averaging 22 ppg. Go Kevi!
oruvoice
Even if she ends up with 2,874 points, it doesn't matter all that much. We (people in general) get too wrapped up in 'round' numbers. Like somehow 2,996 would diminish her career... She is/has been one of the all time greats. And, will be so, no matter the final point total. Dollars to donuts, she'd (as most of us would) sacrifice the individual point total, to achieve a conference tourney title and NCAA trip! OldTimer
would love to see it happen, however, in blowout wins, only averaging 21 minutes it will be tough to do!
oruvoice
Yeah/ These STUPID coaches that don't try to run up a star player's stats are STUPID. I mean, look at Baylor. Griner only played 26 minutes against ORU. Yeah, the back-ups got some experience, but Griner could have gone for 40+ points, 20 rebounds, & 10 blocks. Especially late in the game, when we were worn down and playing our subs. That STUPID Baylor coach just doesn't understand basketball. She'll never win anything with that philosophy. You should get on the Baylor message boards and educate them!
OldTimer
oh mr holier than thou, nobody said anybody was stupid. You are the one with the off centered rhetoric! Maybe we need to send Coach Cussen to the "Bill Belichick School of Running up the Score"
oruvoice
I am the one with 'off-centered rhetoric'? That's funny. Please go back to posting under your other screen name. Your 'trolling' under this new name is sad. We BOTH know that you are better than this.

theeagleman5
TheEagleman would love to see Kevi get 3,000.....but it seems likely that unless ORU miraculously gets at least a half dozen post season games....she is destined to come up about 100 or so short.....still, she is certainly going to be the top player in ORU ladies history.....and she can cement that with a post season NCAA bid.....
