Bogus Smith Posted June 29, 2012 Share Posted June 29, 2012 Jose goes 1 for 2 tonight with a bases clearing 3-run triple in the bottom of the 8th as Team USA tops the Catawba Valley All-Stars, 11-1. In his only at-bat, he struck out, which took his batting average down to .182 (2-11 with one single, one triple and five RBIs). In his first pitching appearance, Jose threw 27 pitches (17 for strikes) in the fifth inning - giving up one HR. The teams tied 2-2, in what appeared to be an intrasquad tournament. Bogus Smith Posted July 1, 2012 Share Posted July 1, 2012 Jose has a stellar night, going 2-for-3 with a double and grand slam HR, driving in six runs in a 15-3 win for the Stars over the Stripes in another intrasquad game. For his time at USA Baseball, Trevino goes 4-for-14 (.286), with a single, double, triple and HR and driving in 11 runs. I believe that Jose returns to his summer baseball team in Wisconsin (in the Northwoods League) after tonight's game since he is only an alternate on the USA Collegiate Team. I have to believe that this has been an opportunity to show Jose's skills on a national scale. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a permanent position on the team next summer. Tonight's game summary is shown below: USA Baseball Stars uses big second inning to beat USA Baseball Stripes, 15-3 USA Baseball Stars beat USA Baseball Stripes 15-3 in eight innings on Saturday at Durham, N.C. after an eight-run explosion in the second inning. Jose Trevino racked up six RBIs on two hits for USA Baseball Stars. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning. USA Baseball Stripes couldn't get anything going so long as Ryne Stanek was on the hill. USA Baseball Stripes managed just two hits off of Stanek, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his 3 2/3 innings of work. Jake Reed got the win for USA Baseball Stars. He allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered six hits. Stephen Gonsalves had a short outing, lasting only one inning on the hill for USA Baseball Stripes before being removed. Gonsalves allowed no hits and no runs. Bogus Smith Posted July 9, 2012 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Jose has gotten the call to return to the USA Collegiate baseball team. The team finishes their series in Havana, Cuba tomorrow (Monday) and it sounds like he'll report to Cary, NC on Tuesday when the team returns. USA Baseball starts the European portion of their tour by traveling to the Netherlands for a July 14.game. Always good to see our guys have good things happen for them!! Congrats, Jose! Ben Grover picked up the save for team USA in their exhibition today vs the Dutch National Team. He barely saw the field while at ORU, but apparently he pitches in the Dutch League and has been added to Team USA during the tournament there. Jose Trevino also went 2-4.
