ORUTerry
Mid-Con Tournament: Men's day 3 in review By MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer 3/7/2006 Player of the Day: ORU junior forward Caleb Green scored 17 of his 23 points after halftime, pacing ORU to a 77-58 semifinal win over Valparaiso. Green scored 15 of ORU's first 17 points of the second half. It was his 27th consecutive double-digit game and 17th of the year with 20 or more. Quotable: "I'm really proud of our team. I thought we played a terrific game. Defensively, we held an explosive offensive team to 58 points. I thought we did a great job jof taking them out of their offense." -- ORU head coach Scott Sutton. On sale: Tickets are still available for the men's championship game at $25 and $13.50. The UMAC Ticket Office (461-7831) opens at 10 a.m. Urban legend: Tight rims at the UMAC are causing an epidemic of poor shooting in the Mid-Con tournament. Right? Wrong, said Ed Grom, Mid-Con associate commissioner and tournament director. Grom said he measured the rims last Thursday night and they are actually softer than the average required by the NCAA. TV time: Ron Franklin and Fran Fraschilla will call Tuesday's ESPN-televised men's championship game, tipping off at 6 p.m. The women's game will air at 12:30 p.m., but ESPNU is not available in the Tulsa market except to satellite subscribers. Hard to believe, when you see rebounds clearing the three point arc! I'm glad to know they checked it though. The league's on top of things. Could it be that Kampe was right, and it was overinflated balls all along?

tmh8286
Whatever the case, I was thinking about it tonight, and noticed that we definitely weren't seeing the deep caroms after jump shots and free throws. Whether it was over-inflation of the basketballs, rim tension or whatever, the shots just weren't bouncing off like they were earlier in the tournament. I think somebody reported that they were going to adjust the pressure in the balls, so I bet that was it.
