Old Titan
Today's record high for Brookings is 65 degrees set in 1981 OK, OK - its a veritable garden spot. A tropical paradise. A virtual Shangri-La. Now, remind me again: when is your baseball home opener scheduled? Because ours is three weeks from tomorrow... Bottom line: SDSU WILL get a BracketBusters TV game, and a good one. But they won't get the caliber of opponent ORU does, and geography and weather may figure into the equation. Otis 83
Current anomolies aside, this chart from the Weather Channel gives an objective assessement. The average high in January is 23 and the average low is 3. Things warm up a bit in February to 28 and 8. That's the average folks so there's plenty of room for a high of 48 AND a low of -12. If you click the Record High and Record Low boxes you'll see that the record high for January is indeed 65 degrees. You'll also see that the record low is -41. Remember, if you torture statistics long enough they'll say anything you want them to.

Old Titan
Non-televised match-ups starting to leak out on Twitter: Indiana State @ Butler (Oakland had hoped to get that trip) Lamar @ George Mason (nice "get" for Pat Knight and the Southland Conference) Western Michigan @ North Dakota State (WMU destroyed Oakland in Rochester back in December)

oruvoice
If this is correct, I LOVE the time slot, the fact that it is on ESPN2 and not U, and the fact that LBSU has a 34 RPI!!! And, the fact that the previous game to ours, tips at 3pm....which means that we get our game televised from the OPENING TIP and not joined in progress, midway thru the first half!!!! #1 Fan
As a followup from the Zips Board "LOL this is complete BS. It's a prediction from our VCURamNation board that one of our resident posters Pavarotti put up as a guess. http://www.vcuramnation.com/forums/viewtop...tart=20#p148187" Gotta love people looking for a scoop around BracketBuster time. We'll all find out soon enough!

Old Titan
The middle of this previous thread contains a debate regarding the merits - and ultimately, the intent - of BracketBusters. This weekend, I came upon an article by Andy Glockner of SI.com (written at the time the selections came out) that perfectly sums up what I was struggling to communicate. Here's the first paragraph: "My biggest annual complaint with BracketBusters is that the games between the best teams are set for TV purposes and/or geography rather than what most helps the teams in their quest for NCAA tournament bids. Generally speaking, the games become net losses for the mid-majors, with the losing team often being hurt (or completely KO'd) more than the winning team gains in profile cred." He goes on to label the event "BracketEliminators", which refers to a Tweet of his that Mike Brown quoted in today's Tulsa World: "In the last three years, no team that has lost a BracketBuster game has been awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament". Which is preposterous on its face: suppose suddenly-streaking Wichita State, a veritable lock for an at-large bid right now, stumbles at dangerous-but-not-highly-regarded Davidson in their BracketBuster game, and then loses to nationally-ranked Creighton in the Missouri Valley tournament final. Will that loss to Davidson be used as an excuse to keep the Shockers out of the NCAA tournament? If that's the case, mid-majors should boycott the entire BracketBuster process from now on. It just does more bad than good for teams like ORU that have already earned a spot on the bubble. theeagleman5
Yes, I think Old Titan summed it up well above.....Wichita State should probably have been sent to play Murray State....that's the game everybody probably wants to see right now.....and St. Mary's should be at Mabee Center to play ORU or possibly Creighton....ORU in that scenerio should have drawn Long Beach State.....ah, but what can ya do....the matchups were made two weeks ago.....at this point, Akron doesn't turn out to be such a bad draw for us....if the Zips win their game on Wednesday night they should be right around the 50-52 RPI mark and if we hold serve at IPFW.....we should stay in the 45-48 range.....so this is a fair contest and one where ORU can prove that we can beat a top 50 team.....ORU has an excellent shot to be 26-5 as we head to Sioux Falls....not sure if anyone predicted that back on 11/1.....certainly not TheEagleman..... Bad Blood
Not sure why anyone sees this as a negative. An ESPN2-broadcast home game, in February, against a team with a sub-60 RPI? I'm sorry, there's nothing wrong with that at all. If ORU wasn't playing this game now, they would have played a similar game to this one back in November or December. Probably against a team with a triple-digit RPI. Definitely not on ESPN2. I'm sorry, there just aren't any negatives to the situation.
