Senior forward Clifford Crenshaw matched his career-high with 26 points, leading Oral Roberts to a 71-60 triumph over Oklahoma State. The game attracted a crowd of nearly 8,700 to the Mabee Center. After the Cowboys rallied from an 11-point, second-half deficit to tie the score, Crenshaw scored 14 points during the final 5:40. The Cowboys were scoreless during the final three minutes.

It was a significant victory for ORU coach Bill Self, who played at OSU and had been a Cowboy assistant before taking the Golden Eagle job in 1993.

As the Golden Eagles recorded their 16th consecutive home win, Tim Gill scored 17 points while Rocky Walls totaled 14 points and six rebounds. For the weary Cowboys, only two days removed from an overtime triumph over Oklahoma, Chianti Roberts had 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Against ORU, the Cowboys were 7-of-8 at the foul line. ORU was 20-of-33.

"I was fearful. I knew (the ORU game) would be a tough contest," said OSU coach Eddie Sutton, who added that he didn't enjoy competing against his son, ORU assistant Scott Sutton.

The Golden Eagles went on to capture an NIT berth and finished with a record of 21-7. Later that year, Self became the head coach at the University of Tulsa. The 1996-97 Cowboys closed with a mark of 17-15 and also played in the NIT.
