TU finalizing contract with Mossman

As first reported by InsideTulsaSports.com on Saturday, the leading candidate to replace Charlene Thomas-Swinson as head coach of the Tulsa women's basketball program is Norman High School girls coach Matilda Mossman. The parties are said to be finalizing a contract.

Mossman has 13 years of college coaching experience and won a Big Eight Championship and was named Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1987 at Kansas State, where she amassed an 83-68 record in six seasons. She was also the head women's basketball coach of the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks from 1981 to 1984, posting a 67-27 record.

Rumors were floating around (perhaps started here on the message board!) that TU had interviewed Misti Cussen, ORU's assistant women's coach. Don't know if that actually happened or not, but apparently TU decided to go a different direction.

Her husband, Kyle, is already a coach at TU - of women's soccer. Seems like she would have been a perfect fit for the job, had BOTH parties been interested!

Misti is an INCREDIBLY capable individual, and will make an excellent head coach somewhere, some day.

Conflicting reports on the TU and OU boards over whether Mossman is married to OU Media Relations guy Kenny Mossman, divorced from him, or is his mom.

Also confusion as to her career track: successful head coach at two BCS schools, but with stints in between and after as a mid-major assistant and a high school coach.

Regardless of his bio, her resume seems solid - TU wanted a woman with head coaching experience, and that's what they got.

I agree. Seems like a great hire. Glad we get to keep Misti. Hopefully she's glad to stay.

She is divorced from Mossman - followed his career path to Illinois (he was at Illinois State where she coached high school and later was an ISU assistant coach) and then to Norman when he got the OU gig.
