Great win for the team! They deserve to be in the finals and it should be an awesome atmosphere agasinst SDSU. Jerry Finkbeiner has really brought this team together.

However... Our aggressive extended zone where 4 players are nowhere near the basket and the fifth player is somewhere in the general vicinity of the basket led to maybe a dozen easy layups for UMKC because they understood how to make precise quick passes ahead of our defensive rotations. Certainly SDSU is smart enough and quick enough to do the exact same thing. I'm not a coach (and that's why I'm just throwing this out for discussion to see what others think) but it seems that when the opponent is not IUPUI, Centenary or Souther Utah, the high risk/reward nature of the extended zone could be hurtful rather than helpful.

On the other hand, we beat SDSU and Oakland both times we played each of them with a similar system.

I think we have to mix things up more and prevent easy lay-up after easy lay-up by defending the post more aggressively. I know that Ken Trickey would be very proud of our current approach and hey we are 23-8 using it, but I have to think that we could still keep the run-and-gun offensive style and aggressive defensive mindset and employ some trapping without abandoning defense around the key.

Yes! Great Win. Absolutely agree about the defense. This has been the case all year long - extending the defense away from the basket making us vulnerable for an over the top pass to the post positioned right under the basket. Jeff (ORU play-by-play) has made the same comment on every game I have listened to this season. Teams have now watched us enough to figure out that strategy to the point where it is a weakness resulting in an easy bucket. We should definitely mix it up and hopefully show something a little different to SDSU. They are a good team and with the "home" court advantage, we will have to stay aggressive and play smart to beat them.

No, you made a statement of observation. "and freshmanitis can get you beat in overtime as today's game proved".

So Kevi played like a freshman...which is exactly what she is. |(

...and that is why there has to be some discipline, particularly when it involves freshmen, in big games at crunch time regardless of how good they are. The "one-on-one" activity during the overtime period was very detimental to their opportunity to win.

WE DON'T GET TO OVERTIME WITHOUT KEVI'S CONTRIBUTION DOWN THE STRETCH - WE LOSE IN REGULATION!

It's pretty obvious a couple of new "contributors" on this forum have some sort of agenda against Kevi, apparently because they feel another player who is very dear to them is not getting her props.

Look, this isn't high school. It's Division-1 basketball, and not everyone gets to be the star.

Some players have to learn new roles, or else the team could go the way of this year's men's teams at places like Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.

Friends and family members need to learn new roles, too, and either get on board or get out of the way.

This message board is a place for fans of the PROGRAM, year in and year out, not just myopic devotees of a single player who would rather gripe about their favorite little girl getting more shots or minutes, than support the school, the team and the coach for the long run.

Aha! So there is a point behind your observations. Thanks. That's all I was trying to understand.
