Baylor baseball falls to Oral Roberts, 6-5

At various tense moments of Friday’s game, one Baylor baseball supporter loudly beckoned his favorite team to “Bear down!”

Lately, that’s been the exact problem for the Bears. They’ve been down — a lot.

Despite building a 5-2 lead, Baylor coughed that advantage up with some ragged play in the field in a 6-5 series-opening loss to Oral Roberts at Baylor Ballpark. It’s the fifth straight defeat for the Bears (4-6), who have trailed at some point in all 10 of their games this season.

“This was a winnable game, so it’s disappointing when you don’t win it,” Baylor coach Steve Smith. “This wasn’t so much a game where the other team beat us as we beat ourselves.”

“We definitely gave this one away,” said senior third baseman Raynor Campbell.

Hopefully the Tulsa World will start to give ORU some similar coverage when we get into some home stands.
