Do we know who the host institution is for this Tournament? I saw where Oakland is the host institution for the 2013 Tournament at The Palace for the first two rounds (like they did in 2007). If we're the host institution, I'm not sure what that would do to the chances for being placed here. Hopefully ORU will have an involvement in the Tournament, either as the host or co-host with TU.

TU is the host........

Prolly works to our benefit if we're a Tournament Champion coming out of the Summit League. They might send TU elsewhere as a host institution.

  • 2 weeks later...

i dont believe teams can play in their own city... which is why memphis wasnt placed in the memphis bracket, syracuse in the syracuse bracket and minnesota coulndt play in the first round in minneapolis

Teams can play in their home city...just not in their home arena......Villanova played in Phila. last year because it was played at the Wachovia Center and not on the Nova campus....and this was despite the fact that Nova plays 3-4 home games a year there against big time opponents on the schedule like UCONN, Georgetown, Louisville, etc..... :!:

This was discussed in another thread - but I'll copy it here. In summary... the Eagleman is right. :!:

After consulting the NCAA's "principles and procedures" for establishing the tourney bracket - I found these provisions related to "home court advantage" and "hosting".

1) To recognize the demonstrated quality of higher ranked

teams, the committee shall not place teams

seeded on the first five lines (1-5 seeds) at a potential

“home-crowd disadvantage” in the first

round.

2) A team will not be permitted to play in any

facility in which it has played more than

three games during its season, not including

conference post-season tournaments.

3) A host institution’s team shall not be

permitted to play at the site where the

institution is hosting. However, the team may

play on the same days when the institution is

hosting.

And I still say Rules #2 and #3 don't apply to ORU (since we don't play in the BOK Center during the season, and we're not the host), and that Rule #1 is vague and doesn't apply if we're playing a team like OU, OSU, Arkansas, or even Kansas (any of whom the committee knows would have absolutely no "potential home-crowd disadvantage" playing little ol' ORU in the 16,000+ seat arena).

OT is correct....ORU could definitely be assigned to games at the BOK Center if we make the tournament in 2011.... :)
