ORUTerry
Add another title ORU pitcher Andre Lamontagne and first baseman Michael Notaro celebrate after the final out against South Dakota State on Saturday. STEPHEN HOLMAN/Tulsa World (excerpt) By KEVIN HENRY World Correspondent 5/24/2009 Last Modified: 5/24/2009 6:43 AM Johnny Roberts was named Most Valuable Player in the Summit League baseball tournament, and the Oral Roberts designated hitter's performance on Saturday afternoon certainly helped him earn the honor. Roberts went 2-for-4 on the day, including a seventh-inning grand slam, to lead top-seeded Oral Roberts to a 6-2 victory over third-seeded South Dakota State in the championship game at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The win gave ORU (31-13) its 12th consecutive league title and its 12th straight NCAA Tournament berth. It was also ORU's 30th straight conference tournament win and improved Golden Eagle head coach Rob Walton to 18-0 in league postseason action...... Bogus Smith
The crowd yesterday was very good (relatively speaking). The announced crowd of 1,032 was probably very accurate. It was the best crowd for ORU and second best crowd of the season (only the Arkansas game with all of its red and pig noise was larger). I was very impressed with the crowd that traveled with SDSU. I had heard that all but 4 or 5 parents were there in attendance to support their kids and there were other supporters there from the surrounding cities/states. It was nice to see some other teams' crowds there to root on their team.
