tmh8286
At one point the other night New Mexico made a layup and missed - tip, miss, tip, miss, tip and in. When scoring that sequence, is UNM credited with three offensive rebounds before the basket, or does a player have to have control of the ball before it's considered and recorded as a rebound? I've always wondered how tips were recorded, or if they were, on the stat sheet.
oruvoice
That is up to the official stat crew working the game. But generally, if it is a solid 'tip' attempt on the basket, it is recorded as a rebound and shot attempt. There is some subjectivity involved, however. Same with crediting an assist.
