Bogus Smith
Very nice signing class. Good job by the coaching staff! I guess with this last recruit, the coaching staff can say that the Buck stops here...or when she plays she's just passing the Buck...or when she makes a shot, is it always a Buck-et?...or.... ORU Women's Basketball Signs Fifth Player Courtesy: ORU Media Relations TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University head women’s basketball coach Jerry Finkbeiner announced Friday that one more player has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Golden Eagles beginning in 2009-10. 5-10 senior forward Savanna Buck from Pinehurst, Texas (Tomball HS) rounds out ORU’s early signing class. Buck transferred from Katy HS to play at Tomball HS this season. Buck earned All-Greater Houston District 15 5-A second-team honors as junior, as she was the school second leading scorer last season and was also named all-district first-team as a sophomore. Buck also holds Katy High School’s rebounding single game record, as she pulled down 20 rebounds and posted 21 points against Morron Ranch as sophomore. Buck also earned all-district 15 5-A first-team honors in volleyball as a junior. “I think we’re very fortunate to have Savanna in our program,” Tomball girls basketball head coach Karen Lemker said. “It’s wonderful to have a player with this much heart and intensity. She loves the game and its evident in her play.” “Savanna comes to us from the Houston area and is a player very similar to current ORU player Janae Voelker,” Finkbeiner said. “She’s the power 3-4 type who’s physically strong and is comfortable playing with her face to the basket. She’s a very physical player and is ready to player right out of high school and she’s well-respected in Texas among rankings and statistics. The development for her physically is already there and she’s a great player than can score, rebound and run the ball.” USU’s signing class is now at five players as Buck joins Jaci Bigham, Kevi Luper, Audra Pfannenstiel and Jasmine Smith. “I feel good about this signing class,” Finkbeiner said. “We’ve covered a lot of positions with this group and we’ve worked hard to get them. They will be good fits for this program and I’m looking forward to what they will bring and they will be a part of some great things here at ORU.”
