Bain impressive in winning NCAA title

He is now the third fastest Bahamian quarter-miler of all time

Andretti Bain has given The Bahamas new hope of winning a medal in the men's 4x400 meters (m) at this summer's Beijing Olympics, and maybe even the open 400m as well.

On Saturday, Bain running in the quarter-mile final at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa won in a personal best time of 44.62 seconds.

The Oral Roberts University senior edged out University of Southern California's senior Lionel Larry, who clocked 44.63 seconds while Baylor University sophomore LeJerald Betters was third in 44.83 seconds. With the victory, Bain now joins the ranks of former national record holder Avard Moncur, who won this event twice, in 2001 and again in 2002. They are the only two Bahamian males to win NCAA Division I titles outdoors in the 400m.
