From the ORU - Valpo game notes via the ORU Athletic Department web site:

Tutt to Miss Valpo Game

Junior guard Ken Tutt, ORU's No. 10 all-time leading scorer, will miss Monday's game at Valparaiso after suffering a fractured fifth metatarsal (pinky toe) on his right foot in Saturday's win over Western Illinois. Tutt, who is second on the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg, sustained the injury early in the second half in a non-contact situation. Tutt will be reevaluated by specialists in Tulsa on Monday and Tuesday before his long-term status is known.

...better hope JB stays healthy, special shoes or no special shoes.

Seriously, for Valpo do we go tall with Yemi, experienced with Eric, or offensive with Moses?

I think we try a little of each to see what the match-ups are like. From what I saw of the Green, Owens, Vealy, Ehambe & Bluitt line-up, I'm not sure anyone in the league can keep up with that assembled athleticsm. Just don't know how they will do from a defensive perspective. Substitute Fowlkes for Bluitt and it get crazy with speed and athletic ability. Just not sure we have a floor general (though Eric performed well against Wichita State two years ago as point guard) or enough ball handling ability. Ehambe can handle the ball decently as can Owens.

It will be interesting to see what Sutton & Co. come up with tomorrow night. Expect to see a zone defense that collapses down on Green. We will need Bluitt & Ehambe to shoot well from the perimeter to keep the defense honest. I also expect Valpo to pressure us if Bluitt is not in the lineup.... just like Western Illinois did.

I'm serious....I always want both teams to be at full strength so you get a true measure of what they have...we are without two players also, Miles and McPherson...Miles has been starting, and McPherson is the point guard of the future....I don't think either are as important to us as Tutt is to you, but it's never perfect in college basketball...Hope he gets well real soon....I don't know how much a broken toe affects you over a long period of time, but it has to slow you down at the very least....

Thanks, rlh. I appreciate the sportsmanship in your post. I look forward to seeing you on the broadcast tomorrow night, and to a competitive game between two of the Mid-Con's best.

As critical as we have been of times of Ken's shooting percentage and defensive play this year, this will be a good chance to see how we do without him for a game.

I am so glad that Tutt is not playing on tomorrow night. Even if he could go 80% I say let him sit out. While another 'W' in the ARC would be nice, it's not essential to our long term success this season. I would rather play Valpo without Tutt now and possibly lose than keep him on the floor and have him out for the post season run.

If I remember correctly, Moses came off the bench last year to hit a BIG 3 that helped lift us to our first win ever at the Arc. Hopefully his good fortune in Valpo will bid us well tomorrow.

Moses definately came in the game last year and hit a huge three and a big long jumper, ever since that game I have been huge on Mo's potential and I was always upset last year that after that game he really didn't get too many opportunities to play. Here's to hoping that Moses is going to come into his own with a chance tomorrow, GO EAGLES!!!

The guy that killed us last year was Meloy.....he lit us up and we didn't know a thing about him at the time.....He was the big surprise, the others we pretty well knew about...Moses hit a big 3, but it was Meloy that put you in the position to win...

If I recall my anatomy correctly, a metatarsal is not the pinkie toe (that would be a phalange) but the bone on the side of the foot that leads to the pinkie toe. That is a much more serious injury.

...and if I recall correctly from my extensive educational background, the metatarsal is the toe that had no roast beef, and the phalange is the one that went "Wee, wee, wee!" all the way home. Hope that clarifies it for some of our younger readers...

Are you a doctor or what, OKC Eagle????

Actually, I'm a lawyer, but I have a biology degree from ORU and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

How did a biologist end up a lawyer?? How many times did you discuss the Krebs Cycle in law school?
