response to negative AP article on ORU

After another unfair AP article on ORU where several (I think a net loss of only 8!) students had indicated they weren't coming back, my wife finally had enough:

"Justin, Justin, Justin [the writer of the article],

I just read your article about kids leaving ORU because

of the scandal!  Wow, you definitely are not talking to

the same students, faculty or parents that I am.

It must have taken you a long time to find the disgruntled

ones, because my husband and I just spent a fabulous

weekend in Tulsa and at ORU talking to many who are so full

of hope for ORU.  The vast majority of students we talked

to were excited about next year and the years to come.

They are excited about their majors, their classes,

their professors, the direction the school is taking.

To them, the best is yet to come.

The fruit of ORU is better than ever!  The faculty is

smiling, happy, the students and graduates are excited.

So Justin, next time you're on campus, let me know.

I'll show you the norm, and not the exception!

Do you have a link to the article?  If anything, I'm more excited about this upcoming year than any other year. It's an exciting time at ORU. I'd really like to read the article and to send an e-mail myself.

This thread probably should be moved to the free for all board

Good for her!

Yeah, that's a real news flash there from the ol' AP:  a percentage of students at some university not returning to school for some reason or another the next year.

I'm sure that never happens annually on any other campus in the country...

Funny thing about that -

I was on the list of "students to be called."

At graduation Jeremy Burton asked me if I had ended talking to Justin - I said no...

That's a shame that the article was misleading.

I've spoken with the TW several times and they have usually had pretty fair coverage on the issue.

Disappointing - I wish he would have spoken to me.

Justin is probably glad that he didn't talk to you, though.  It probably wouldn't have fit in to the story that he wanted to tell.  As OT pointed out, it is normal for all institutions of higher education to have some attrition in their student body each year.  I doubt Justin was doing a fair and balanced story.  If you Google "Oral Roberts Associated Press" you see a number of his stories which related to the negative side of the events of the last 6 - 7 months.

I agree with you that April Marciszewski is very good at reporting ORU from the TW - their "Special Projects" reporter (can't remember her name) is a little more biased in her approach.
