FargoBison
big loss for SUU.... The Summit League's newcomer of the year in men's basketball will not return next year. The NCAA denied Southern Utah's request for another year of eligibility for forward Geoff Payne. The NCAA ruled that Payne's eligibility ended at the end of the last basketball season. Prior to transferring to Southern Utah last season, Payne spent one season at Utah in 2003. He left for a church mission, then enrolled at Snow College in 2005 where he played for two seasons for coach Roger Reid, now Southern Utah's head coach. Payne, who was a junior college All-American at Snow, averaged 20.6 points per game for Southern Utah, which compiled an 11-19 record last season. In Southern Utah's 75-54 loss at NDSU, Payne had 14 points and 7 rebounds. In Southern Utah's 72-67 home win over NDSU, Payne had 12 points and 4 rebounds. http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/?blog=25001
tmh8286
Great find, FargoBison. Hate to hear it - Payne was pure joy to watch in action. I'm glad he got a little recognition as Newcomer of the Year from the league for his one year he played in it .
